800 Pics Needed

May be going to look at an 800 this afternoon and was wondering if anyone had pics of the muffler/starter still mounted on their tractor so i can verify these are original. Or pics off the tractor would help.

Was the starter/muffler the only HTF parts on the 800 or is there anything else to look out for ???

Thanks , Darrell

Air cleaner is another main one. Some were saying in another thread that if it has internal rear breaks, that makes it a little more rare

The air duct too.

I don't have any pics of the starter, but it should be easy to tell if it's original. The replacement starter doesn't fit in the frame without modifications.

Starter, Air Cleaner, PTO, Muffler, Support between the motor and muffler box are 800 only parts. The crankshaft is only used on 86 and 800 motor.

IH start going back to internal brake system when Quiet Line series was being produce. Quiet Line Cub Cadets started production in October of 1974. Last 800 was made in Janurary of 1976. There was 2345 units produce. Having a 800 with internal brakes is possible....nothing special from what I've been told or read.

My 800 was made in April of 1975. My Dad's 1450 Feburary of 1977. Both have external brakes.

Thanks for all the info , but probably a bit to rough for me , even though it is an 800. Maybe if parts were easier to find i would get it.

Muffler and the sheetmetal around the muffler are missing.

Doesn't look to be too bad of an 800. Every once in a while, the starters and mufflers come up on evilpay. They are usually pretty pricey though. Are the side covers there? Shoot, if the price is right, go for it. You might someday find the missing parts. :beerchug:

On a side note, the internal/external brake thing is something I didn't know about. Pretty interesting. Anyone have any more info on it? Went out and checked my 800 and it has the internal brake. Serial number 568xxx. Just curious.

Merk 03-30-2011 06:45 PM

The serial number on my 800 is 545379.
Here are a few pictures on my 800:

My 800 was rolled over at one time. The steering wheel is bent. The hood and side pannels weren't on my 800 when I got it. The rear fender was replaced because the one on it was bent when it was rolled.

One of the former owners modified the steering:

He drilled a hole thru the steering lever and bolt assembly and used a slotted nut and cotter pin.

Depends on how bad they want to have the pic:

Might need a bigger water color mark...

The side panels are MIA , but i do have extra's.

The person is wanting $400 for it , just can't see giving that for it. I am probably spoiled when it comes to buying Cubs , because i have bought some nice tractors for that price. Here in the area of MO. where i live , they seem to be plentiful. May have to drive a distance to get them , but i do limit myself on that.

I know an 800 is extremely HTF , but i personally am not much into the "rare" factor. Call me wierd , but even when i fix one up i still have to use it. Can't stand looking at a tractor just sitting and not working.

If the muffler and heat shield were there , i would maybe think about it.

Thanks for the info and pics !!!!

Peace Out ,

Darrell

Thanks for the advice. It's a work in process.

Odds are if a scammer/theif sees it he will pass on using it. I need to work on it some more.

Boy Darrell,
That's a tough price. If it ran good and was just missing what you mentioned and you have an extra set of panels, $400 would be top dollar. Non-running, blown engine, etc., definitely high on the price. I agree with you on the trailer queens. My 800 was used this winter for snow moving duty along with my 169. These guys earn their keep::biggrin2: Both are original paint and in decent shape. Here's a pic of my 800.
Merk,
Nice 800. I've always liked the look of narrow front and rear tires on the 800. Kinda wish mine had em.

Wow! Sweet original condition 800 and still earning it's keep!!! The only 800 I owned for a short time(I found it for a collector) was not a turn key and parts missing. He gave me $350 for it. Missing parts: starter, breather, heat shield but casting remained and engine side covers. www.ihccw.com had the starter and breather assembly and it cost him mega $$ for those two items. He got it running, major smoker but no knocker, engine is tore down now and waiting on a NOS Kohler piston and rings(again mega $$),he said the rest of the internals mic'd out good to go...Will the heat shield or muffler box tin from other QL's fit a 800 casting?

The aluminum cast piece is the 800 only part. The muffler box tin from the other quietlines will work.

Josh-

Another interesting thing about that 800 I can't remember if I mentioned to you...when I was changing the frame on it I noticed that there were several extra tapped holes in the trans case with pipe plugs in them, including one in the shifter, all factory. I wonder if part of that rear was destined for a Lo-Boy but wound up in the CC assembly line somehow.

I'm really glad to see you're getting some use out of that. I bought it not wanting to see it get turned into a puller. It definitely went to the right home:beerchug:

red56turbo 03-31-2011 10:41 PM

Hey Matt,
No, I don't think you mentioned that to me. I remember you talking about it on one of the forums, though. I will have to check that out when I pull the fender pan. Have a creeper and rear lift to get on it one of these days. Actually fired it up today and getting ready to pull off the blade..............finally......................lo ng winter. :Duh::beerchug:
