Help identifying year

The information on the Cub Cadet website appears to only be for the newer stuff. My serial number is only 6 digits long. I know the cubs before 1997 had different serial numbering schemes. Can anyone help me identify what year my 2155 was made?

Model: 13A-244G100
Serial: 362116

1996-1999. I loaned out my 50 years of CC book, but it might not narrow all the way down. Is there a date under the seat on the label w/ the S/N?

Older ones up to cyclops at least always had a date code next to the S/N tag on the frame, where the first letter is also the year of that decade. Ie "E" is 1995, coincidentally they'd end the first 3 of the model code in 5 too.

The model/serial data looks to be incomplete. How about snapping a picture of the tag and posting it.

Here is the label

Another oddity is this tractor has the 42in deck from serial 359000 and below according to the parts diagram, but the serial appears to be higher than that. So unless the deck was swapped out with an earlier one, it's even more confusing...

There is a small tag to right of the main tag. Can you read the characters and post them ?

That's a sticker and it is totally worn away and unreadable unfortunately. You think that was the rest of the model/serial number?

I was thinking that the 4th digit of the serial # is the year , so that would make it a 2001 . but tractor data shows they were built from 96-99 ????????????

That is the date code

EternalArianne 02-19-2022 12:15 PM

Whelp, I guess I'll never know. I'd like to think it's one of the earlier ones due to the deck, but the first digits of the serial suggest otherwise...

I am betting that is that Date Code Tag and that has the exact time stamp on it.

The engine tag might have some useful info?

darkminion_17 02-19-2022 01:45 PM

All the 2155's has a 6 digit serial number, according to the parts book I have they came with a 42" deck, serial number 359001 and above also I would think it would be a later year model.

Under edit, yours is a 1997 serial number 359001-389000
1998 models no longer had a 6 digit serial number.

EternalArianne 02-19-2022 03:21 PM

Where would I look on the engine for the information? The only labels I see are on the top where it says Command OH. And 15HP.

darkminion_17 02-19-2022 03:37 PM

I just answered your question....

EternalArianne 02-19-2022 03:43 PM

So you think it's a 1997 model with an earlier deck? The deck looks to be from an earlier serial number 359000 and below.

darkminion_17 02-19-2022 04:28 PM

I have the list from cub cadet for all cc mtd built tractors and attachments up to 2001 as for the deck It may have been a leftover being it was close to your serial number...

Got a picture?

Based on the parts diagram and how the anti scalping wheels attach.

darkminion_17 02-19-2022 04:55 PM

That may be the deck that uses the rear bagger, any brackets on the back?
Either way, now you know what year it is.

EternalArianne 02-19-2022 05:34 PM

There was a bracket on the back when I got it but since the rest of it was missing I removed it. Thanks I guess we'll go with 1997. I've been telling people it's a 25 year old mower, guess I was right lol

Ozcub 02-19-2022 05:51 PM

Well according to my specification sheet your Serial number/model was built in 1996 , the first 2 digits identify year made and the remaining digits are the Factory code
All HDS2155 came with the 42" deck
I will scan in the spec sheet and original sales catalogue and post them

Ok I found the sticker on the engine, and based on the serial number the engine is from 1996. So unless it's a transplant, the tractor is also 1996. Explains it having an early model deck...

guyina4x4 02-24-2022 12:12 AM

The engines are usually older than the tractor, by at least a few months. Because the engine is a sub assembly completed before the tractor. I've seen some 6-12 months prior but 2 or 3 is more common.

Also not real sure why it matters, the difference at the serial number splits is usually not much and easily identified.
