Hello;

Seeking some instructions on how to remove the Kohler Engine from this 2084.
Any documents, tips appreciated.

This is a parts tractor and I need to get the engine out

Take the six 3/8" bolts out from under the frame. 9/16" socket and a ratchet and a 9/16" gear wrench for the two that are over the axle. Then you can pull it with the motor plate. Drive shaft will slip out of the CV joint that is bolted to the engine so no need to deal with that. Fuel line, choke and throttle cable electric and your good to go.

How much for the driveshaft?

I would be interested in ALL power steering components, hardware, linkages..

PM me

That's about as concise as you can get info like that! Top notch Sam.

I'm curious why this? The engine plate is notched to clear this.

Yeah, I knew which bolts but there is a sweet spot that you can set the engine down in the frame and the notches in the engine mount plate clear those two bolts. The, you have to scoot the engine back to engage the driveshaft.

I've pulled and replaced many Briggs and Kohler's in these Cyclops and I never removed those bolts. I always pull the grille off though. Maybe that is the difference? I'm not sure you could get the engine out with the grille on and not taking those two bolts out?

Mike the motor plate has 6 bolts that hold it to the frame, 4 are easy to get at from underneath 2 sit in the channel above the axle. I'm talking about the 2 circled in red in this pic from the top. :bash2:

In the past I removed the six bolts and slid the motor forward. Then unbolted the motor from the plate for removal. This past week I pulled the motor from my 2072. I left the motor bolted to the plate. Went much easier that way than I thought it would. Just slide plate forward to have the notch clear the bolt. The only rough spot I had was tilting the plate to clear the front hydraulics and it wasn't to bad.

Okay. Those two bolts are 9/16" hex bolts like the other four. What were you going to use the 3/4" tools for that you mentioned?

3/4" socket and a ratchet and a 3/4" gear wrench for the two that are over the axle.

Mike you are correct, the bolts take a 9/16" socket and a 9/16" gear wrench (you can use a 9/16" box wrench but it takes longer).

I went back and corrected the previous post's

Mac and Mike Thanks for the detailed info .... not a big deal to me on socket size I have more sockets than Mr Goodwrench

So after I remove the said bolts.......lift engine by hand? Or can straps be used? Lift points? I have a overhead chainfall from Harbor Freight.............

I will get to this once the snow stops here in upstate New York.......2 inches forecasted tonight

I used to use a HF chain hoist. 500#. Chain kept getting in the way so they had the electric lifts on sale for $50 and I bought one of them. Works great for Cub work.

There should be a lifting eye on the left front and right rear of the engine to lift by.

Or, you can lift it out by hand.

Engine should have 2 lift points. I would use a hoist, my back is trashed as it is. Mike posted 1st. what he said.

I recently pulled the CH20 out of my 2084 (first time ever pulling any type of engine)

The bolts under above the front axle are a pain in the butt.

A knowledgeable facebook poster might be on here (Mark Logan) suggested jacking up the front of the tractor and tilting the axle.

Good luck!
