Hydraulic snow blower
 

I built myself another attachment for 1772, a hydraulic driven snow blower. I have been thinking about this for a while now and I finally got the chance when I was given a 42" craftsman blower for nothing. Started off by building a mounting frame with my quick attach set up. Next was figuring out what size motor to use. Quite a bit of math involved. I wound up with a .388 Cid motor and with all the pulleys, rpm, and psi being factored in i came up with 15 ftlbs of torque driving the blower. The motor runs off the kwik-way loader pump. I made a video with more explanation and it running. I still need to figure out how to run the chute from the seat. Will also be adding a master releif valve to the system in the event I jamb the blower.

I'll put an " experimental" decal on it. That way I don't have to follow the rules. Lol

You don't need a master relief valve. They blower is belt driven and so is the pump. I'd only be concerned if it was direct drive. You will either slip the belt, or break it before you blow a hose or pump/motor housing.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I do have a float function on the kwik-way if I need. The motor is from norther tool. By-directional, pump or motor.The releif valve I was going back and forth on. I'd rather not have it since it would be another hose back to the tank to deal with. The fact Im running a case drain does give the oil a place to go in the event of a lock up, but I agree the belt will slip before any thing else.

Looks to be the perfect size for the tractor. Are there shear bolts on the augers? Impressive adaption.

Not to derail but this project makes me realize I could power my rearmount Haban sickle with one of those! Thanks for the inspiration!:beerchug:

Terry, why not mount it like Ken did on a FEL, then you could use it to trim the hedges.:biggrin2:

Hydraulics open all kinds of doors. A hydraulic sickle bar would be pretty cool.

I also discovered the blower is made by Agri-fab, this same blower is also used by John deere and Cub Cadet. Just rebranded, and parts are still available.

Very well done! If it weren't being used while it's cold out, would oil temperature be a concern? I have thought about a hydraulic pto for a long time, but didn't know where to mount a oil cooler where it wouldn't look rediculous.

Side not, isn't 15 foot lbs about the same torque as a 12 hp k series puts out?

Oil temp was a concern, not only for the blower but my backhoe as well. That's why I built a second oil tank. The kwik-way tank only holds about 1.5 gallons. I built another 3.5 gallon tank to keep things cool. I have it set up so both tanks are being utilized. I have since moved the oil filter to a more suitable location.

Ken, where did you mount your filter? I'm in the process of doing the same loader on the same tractor and have not found a place yet that I'm 100% happy with the location. Nice job on the auxiliary tank.

Moved the filter to the other side.

I liked where it was before, now it looks like a toe ready to be stubbed.

That sure seems like a dig at my expense. Well played Lew :biggrin2:

2 reasons I moved it, the filter hit the brake pedal and when I change the filter the oil dumps all over the tank and will drip for days. I moved it 3 moths ago no problems so far.

Finally got some snow to do some testing in. Works very good. Now I need to figure out how to run the chute from the seat. I might need to do some sort of 12v motor. Here's some video...

For 2" just use a blade but 6" or 10" of snow is where a 2 phase snow blower shine! I want to see how much torque this hydraulic motor has under a good load. Then we talk! :beerchug:

This is one of the few times I'm wishing for snow so i can see what this blower will handle. As soon as it snows again I'll make a new video turbo screaming and all.
