Hydrostatic fan question?
Good gosh, not too much left of the fan.
I imagine this has been there for awhile? It has 1 fin left. Going to replace it but am wondering how important is this fan? There is a reason behind it but I don't have a clue if this fan is that effective or ? Maybe some one can chime in about the effect of this fan who knows something about it. :Thanks: for any imput. It was put there for a reason...to cool the hydrostat transmission. It needs to be replaced.

DYT is correct...it is there to aid in cooling the hydro pump and tranny. I would definitely replace it as soon as possible. One of our sponsors above, or your local cub dealer should have one for you. It also looks like your about to lose a bolt from the rag joint...looks pretty loose to me.

Yes I had intended to replace the moment I saw it. It seems that the gentleman that used it previous had run it that way for a long time?
After I get the rear fender off & I power wash it, I'll have a better idea as what i'm going to replace or ?. One thing is that when I removed the back plate for the tranny & popped the plate, I saw that the fluid almost looked new. Nik, It may not look like new oil in the photo, but I would say that it was replaced last Fall? http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...010rain062.jpg |
I can stand behind mine and feel the air from the fan, so it does some good.

IT's also fun to get your mom to yell at you, because you left the cub running, while she's over a pile of dirt, The dust that the little fan makes is INCREDIBLE.
Your cub Looks like she's been loved, and used everyday Thanks Cody |
If you haven't already, pull off the fenders and degrease the pump...the fan won't do much good if the cooling fins are not exposed to airflow.

What a eye ya got. Checked it out & yes it was loose. Thanks, Nik |
I need to replace my fan also. Is there a link showing how to get the drive shaft off?

Not there yet, but would be helpfull.:bigthink: Nik |
Nikster, you do it first, make all the mistakes, post the right way to do it, then I'll do it...deal?

I just changed mine.
But I did it during my engine swap so getting the drive shaft off was easy. I believe on the quietline series you have to undo the engine from the cradle and slide it forward to get the driveshaft out. -Ted |
cooling fan on cub 1250
I was reading these posts on how to replace the fan and found on youtube a guy who used a fan blade from an appliance that slips over the shaft using a collier he made to attach to. Looks like a great time saver and a better repair. the only thing is I cannot find this fan blade. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to find this blade? The guy on youtube does not respond to requests.
Thanks |
I've been trying go find an aluminum replacement option for my hydro cubs as well...especially when I had just bought a new OEM plastic one and it broke when it fell from 10" above the ground...I think the best bet will be a dehumidifier/humidifier repair place...the one in my 1974 monkey wards (gilson bros) is aluminum and attached to a larger split collar...I've been looking around.. Found a place, just waiting on size, blade angle, etc...
Good luck |
No need to undo the engine in a Q/L to replace the fan.
Just follow the procedure as stated in the manual. And while you are at it, you may want to replace the rag joint(s) also at this time if they are deformed and hard as a brick. When they are in that condition, it adds to driveline vibrations, not good. |
