New DIY Landplane For My IH
I never really had an attachment that would use the power of my 584 IH,,,
mostly because CATII attachments get REAL expensive. The box blade, and even a 7 foot rear blade never taxed the 584's HP. Well,, one night I got hooked watching YouTube videos of LP's,,, they do an amazing job. I looked at my material stockpile, and decided I had most of what I needed. I remembered the local CAT dealer had a graveyard of used and takeoff parts they sell cheap. I went down there, and,,, sure enough, they had the four 7 foot grader blades I was hoping for. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psa0yop8p2.jpg Two are 5/8" thick, two are 3/4" thick, all are 8" wide, and 7 feet long. The bolts that hold them on are even massive,, http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psxxfvnad8.jpg The bolt on the right is a 3/8" bolt, for comparison. Then, after a lot of sawing, some drilling,,, http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psr3mymums.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psg6fketbn.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...pssqr7y7sv.jpg finally, I got to the fun part, the welding. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psxyntpul3.jpg http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psrcvl8s8f.jpg About a week ago, I spent 3 hours getting the front blade assembly into the frame. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...pstpqo0mnv.jpg The blade assembly weighs over 325 pounds,, it was a monster to position and weld, because of the 15 degree angle. Purely by coincidence,,, the night after I finished the welding of the front blade, we received 5 inches of rain. My 1400 foot driveway was obliterated. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...pskm6khqed.jpg No time for testing, and paint, the landplane had to go to work. |
Here is a pic of that section of the driveway after four passes of the LP, two up, and two down.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psru26ndcg.jpg The LP earned its keep on its first outing,, the 584 finally has an attachment that will make the engine pull. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psxdpxq68z.jpg After grading, I rolled the driveway with my ~300 pound roller. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psvtj1umul.jpg After seeing the results, my SIL is nagging me to build a miniture version, so he can use it behind the 2284 CC,,, :bigthink: |
Incredible build...amazing results!

You new guys should look at his site and see what he's done. Impressive to say the least. Not trying to put him over for any benefit but I'm a fan of his work. https://www.cadplans.com/ |
Good idea John. To bad you weren't a couple hundred miles closer. We have tons of used cutting edges sitting here waiting for someone with this idea.:bigthink:

Nice work CADplans

Pretty heavy stuff to have fun with! Well done!
Look like you need a larger roller now!:beerchug: |
Thanks for the comments guys!! :beer2:
A couple days ago, I was gonna spend the day prepping the LP for paint. My SIL has been wanting a freight container,, the guy called,, and said he had some. Instead of paint prep, we went shopping,, the SIL decided on a new, one use FC. We ran home, and started the area prep. Some time ago, I had leveled the area with the IH 584, the SIL had 17 tons of gravel delivered. The gravel has been there for over a month, the SIL has been stealing from the pile for a nice walking path. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4fygtepd.jpg The remaining gravel was kinda rough,, two passes with the LP, the area was flat. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psd0d4wooo.jpg The container came, and they dropped it pretty close to where the SIL wanted it. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psqctucj0g.jpg My two year old grandson approves!! :bigthink: The FC is the new home for the JD855,,, it fit perfectly. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0dr67tjl.jpg The FC was not at quite the angle the SIL wanted,,, he used the 855 to move it to the left,,, you can see the chain, and the piled up gravel from moving the 4,500 pound container to the left. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7yheu96u.jpg When I ain't chasing the grandson on the new path,,, maybe I will get the painting started,,, http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psxnnyebev.jpg |

That looks really good, I built one for our skid steer using an old cutting edge and a pair of 8" H beams that works pretty good but the angled bars are probably better for working gravel driveways.
