982 w/50" mower, front hydro, 3pt, PTO, dual brakes
Hi Gents,
I am planning to sell my 982, as my mowing acreage just went up. Love the tractor, but I just don't have the time to spend on what is about to increase to 6+ acres. Trying to get to a fair price, one that someone on this forum would be willing to pay to keep and use this machine, rather than just CL it to someone. The hour meter is dead, so I have no idea the hours. THe original Onan runs very well, but has developed an oil leak. I suspect the drain plug, but have not had time to properly diagnose. Steering and hydro drive controls have the typical slack. Front and rear PTOs operate properly, 3Pt and deck hydraulics work properly. Mower starts and runs great, and I currently mow about 4 acres weekly. Front tires are new, rears look original. It has all the tin, but the mounts are weak. It has: 50" mower, works properly Split/dual brakes Front remote hydraulics 3pt hitch (OEM, I believe) Rear PTO Original Onan B48G 20hp twin (No other attachments) While I have owned it (going into 4th season), it has rec'd decent maintenance, and the previous owner did a good job, it seemed. Unknown maintenance prior. I have replaced the entire shaft assembly between motor and hydro, and a few other odds/ends, but no major work. Thoughts on price? Dan B Upstate NY (Columbia County) |
I'm sure others would say pics say a lot...

Here is what I got for my 1872 Super Garden Tractor with Rear 2000rpm PTO and 3pt lift.
Lift and Tilt Johnny Bucket Jr, V61 and Ag filled tires, Front Snow/Dirt blade, front weights and bracket, International 2000rpm 3pt tiller, 60" Haban Mower Deck.. $4300.00 But it also had Power Steering... and in VG condition.... |
Pics would help alot, if its mechanically sound and the paint is decent then you can expect to get between $1000 and $1500. You might get more if you list it on clist but be prepared to play the waiting game until the right buyer comes along.

In the middle of the country, something like that would fetch around 2500 plus or minus. 3pt n rear pto are the big selling points as you may know

This is my "daily driver", so no effort was made to clean the machine up for sale...here it is, warts and all:
|
I'm going to have to lower mine to 1500$
Not for its condition but it's color. Sad to say but if it was IH built it would be worth more. |

Wow, that is in nice shape. Looks like it has the CI rear but it is yellow, not that it matters to me. Looking at the top link, I believe that is an OEM cat 0 hitch + the Model number shows that it was built in 1983 (143), has rear pto, cat 0 hitch and front ports(986) and is yellow(100). That is how you break down the model number (143986100) I would love to add a yellow 982 to my collection:drool2: because you don't see many of them. Good thing you are far away.:biggrin2:
I'm thinking clean it up, put all the panels on it and list it for $2500. Rear lift and pto are worth $1000. |

No, I am not kidding... |

Would you give any more for a 126 than a 125? We talk about it here but I don't think rarity translates into dollars. Parts from rare ones bring more like a 169 air cleaner ect This is just my opinion here |

Just my two bits that aren't worth :TwoCents: |
So I am guessing no road trip to drop off the tractor at J-Mech? 😊

Wasn't there one of the regular posters on the forum down around Georgia that has been trying to find a 982 for a while now? If somebody can remember who it is and maybe PM him with a heads up about this thread.
I never realized they made yellow 982 Cadets! Personally I like it. That said, I live on a farm so we have full size tractors which means I don't have need of rear PTO's and 3pt hitch nor do I need turning brakes on a lawn mower. But I do love my 2 Supers! Dad mowed his yard with the 982 today. You'd think at 86 he'd chose the 2072 due to power steering.:bigthink: If I didn't have other tractors, my opinion about options would probably change! |

Drop me a PM if you're interested in the tractor. Just read about a program at Fastenal (the fastener company) where they will palletize anything you bring to a local store, and drop it at any other store, for very reasonable rates. Or we can figure something out. I'd really like to see one someone who knows about these tractors get this, if it can be worked out... |

FYI- Fastenal came back with a quote: $225 to ship from upstate New York to Georgia.
If anyone is considering shipping large items, this seems like a bargain. The tractor is nearly 1000lbs. Dan B |
You are a little over an hour or so from me....
Might be interest if the price is right. |

Funny thing. I just paid $150 to ship an Onan B48G from Indiana through Fastenal but they quoted me $225 to ship this 1000LB tractor to Georgia...go figure. I would have not made the deal on the engine if I checked on the shipping first but I told the po I would take it and I am a man of my word.....Check on the shipping first.:biggrin2:
Dbarufaldi, I was waiting on JaynJeep to pull the trigger so I'm waiting on him to decide if he wants it or not. I know shipping it will be a pain in the butt but I'm still interested if Jay backs out. :beerchug: |

Turned out to be a nice tractor... haven't had time to play much with it as we have been really busy at work. Dan was a really nice guy and super easy to work with... I was lucky to have chance to buy this tractor and double lucky to get to deal with an extremely up front and honest guy!:beerchug: |

Post some pics if you get a chance. FYI - I think Fastenal was a good shipper. This was a big, cumbersome unit. The pallet was so big, it didn't fit sideways on an OTR trailer. They went above/beyond in getting it to GA fro NY. Price was right, too. Might think twice about pallet shipping something this big again, but would work with Fastenal again in a heartbeat. |
