Picked up this 982 (I actually think its a yellow cadet painted red) today with a 3pt hitch, rear pto, 48" tiller, Haban 54" powerblade, 3pt plow, sweeper, and 50C deck... Serial is 2050604U724092 Model 144986100 think 1983...
My problem is I have a prinstine 1872....Can I take the PTO and 3pt off the "982" and direct fit to the 1872? I like the power steering of the 1872...Or would I be better off just getting a PS from a donor and putting it on the 982? Looking for some guidance from the pro's out there... The tiller is a beast.... I found it on CL this morning and can't believe I actual got it! Here are some pics...taken with my phone so dont be too hard... Also I had to remove the JD seat cover before I took them since I knew I wouldnt live that down! |

According to the book i have it is a yellow/white 986. I didn't realize any of the yellow/white Cubs come with Onans in them.
IMHO , You got one heck of a score !!! Not sure if i would try to put power steering on it , i would do the swap onto the 1872 . |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
