With the engine running at WOT, measure the voltage at the battery terminals and report back.

Jumped mower from truck battery. Put tractor in w o t tested battery . Reading was 14.2 .

mudpatrol1 07-31-2015 09:19 PM

perhaps you got a defective battery???? 14.2 volts should be charging the battery. do you have a battery charger? i would try charging the battery, and see if that works,if not bring the battery back for a exchange

ol'George 07-31-2015 10:16 PM

Also clean all your battery connections + and - @ the battery, sol, and starter.
Why did you replace the battery, because it was not starting?
Possibly you could also have a starter going bad and the extra help from the Jump vehicle is overcoming that problem

Batteries never last more than 2 seasons.
Do you know where I can get a wiring diagram?

Thanks,
Dan

ol'George 08-01-2015 08:43 AM

I don't, you can try googling it or Roland might pop in if he has or knows of one.
Sounds like you are a little short on battery life, ya some only last a couple of years but others go longer than that has been my experience.

Put charger on battery, left it on for 3hr. Tried to start it. Started right up.

There are two different diagrams for the 2155. I need a Chassis Serial Number.

Why are you replacing the starter if it as you said "Started right up" ?

Just my 2 cents but I would put a meter on it and see if it's charging or maybe over charging if it's eating battery's. For what ever its worth I use a battery tender on my stuff and it seems to extend the battery life. I have a couple that are over 5 years old and still going strong.

Me too...........

2155owner 08-02-2015 10:47 AM

I figured that 58.00 was a good price.
I used my battery tender to charge the battery. Worked but when I put it on to keep battery topped off. Tractor wouldn't start just click click click.

Is metal plate where chassis id is?

I will get I'd today when at new farm.
I keep it in the barn now.

Dan

Have been having these electrical problems for awhile.
But still love cub cadet.
Would like a bigger cub so I can do more.

It maybe a cheap Chinese built starter. You have to do your homework.

2155owner 08-02-2015 12:33 PM

Where is chassis id number located.....?

Sam Mac 08-02-2015 02:18 PM

3 Attachment(s)
It should be on the side of the frame just in front of the floor boards. 1st pic is a 2180 and the tag is on the right side, 2nd and 3rd are from a 2165 and the tag was on the left side.

Thanks for diagram.
Can you send it in pdf format please.
Dan

R Bedell 08-03-2015 08:30 AM

I am surprised you can't open a Microsoft File Format. None the less, I converted it to a .PDF format and re-sent.

Never used that format. Havery adobe pdf set up on my computer. Not to say with different programs.

I retired in 2008 and figured I would have time to learn. But suprised I am busier now then when working.
Go figure.
We aremoving out to a more rural home maybe I will have time then... but doubt it....lol

ol'George 08-03-2015 12:52 PM

I retired in '04 from a 7 day schedule figgered retirement would provide extra time,-------------WRONG!
had more free time when working, Everyone I speak too says the same thing.
luck on your repair, we will help when you get stuck.
Did you clean your connections good?:bigthink:

Rebuilt starters

Hey guys I know this is an older thread and I'm a newb to this site! In my hometown we have an electric shop that rebuilds starters and generators along with other stuff. Last time mine went out it was a $30 fix. Cub dealer wanted $250 for a new one. PM me and I'll get you info on there shop if interested. They're not any particular friends of mine nor am I trying to get them business just know they offer a great service to the small farmers in the area!
