1971 10hp and blade

Going after work to look at a "1971 10hp" GD Cadet and a "nearly new" CC front snowplow/blade. '71 was the NF-WF transition year, correct? Wish me luck, seems hard to find anything CC around here, and I have missed the few things that were around. Really want the blade but he says he will make me a deal on both. What is it with these things? My spouse is gonna kill me if I bring home another one....

It's called Yellow Fever....:biggrin2:

You have to make up rules and then follow them.

Some of my rules are,

No more 7 hp Cubs, unless they are a 73.

No more 10 hp Cubs unless they are a 100.

No more Hydro Cubs unless they are a 169 or unless they are equipped with cool options.

No more Gear Drive Cubs unless they are equipped with cool options or unless they are another 128 that I am looking for (might settle for a 108).

Since I'm not really into anything newer than the 1X8/9 series none of the others are really a problem for me.

Then again, I would like to have a Diesel and a Super...

Blade, blade! My kingdom for a blade! :beerchug:

No luck yet but I bought a new shovel for my girlfriend :biggrin2:

64fleetside 05-01-2015 08:23 PM

Turned out to be a 104 with a rear lift, the fiberglass seat is nice, the IH blade looks like new. He wants $200 for both, going back Sunday to get them. Pics late Sunday.

darkminion_17 05-01-2015 08:47 PM

better go tonite and get em before there gone....

64fleetside 05-01-2015 11:04 PM

When I was leaving he expressed interest in some NOS 63-66 Chevy truck bumper guards I own....this 104 has a deck, guess its a 42 has the 1 long blade 2 short. He doesn't know if the blade fits NF or WF, as he has a 1650 and he bought it all together. Blade looks to never been used, but has some rust from lying out. Tractor won't start, he had a test light on it-had juice steady on both sides cranking so points not working.
Dang129 sheared the drive pin on the engine side, must be mad at me.

He cleaned the points still no start. Loaded it up, got home, put in a new H10 plug fired right up and ran, needs carb bushing and gov adjusted. PTO pulley is loose.
Battery is up, as are all tires, dry rotted, original tires on it. Engine rebuilt last year, he sez.

cadzag72 05-03-2015 08:29 PM

Sounds like you did well! Find out what the blade fits yet?

I'll go measure before it gets dark. Cast nose deck, couple rust holes not bad all spindles loose, has carriage and mule drive.

Yosemite Sam 05-03-2015 09:39 PM

That's a Wide Frame blade.

I thought you said it had a lift?

darkminion_17 05-03-2015 10:06 PM

Nice find, for 200 that is goooood,
Mark it does have a lift.

64fleetside 05-03-2015 10:24 PM

Rest of lift is in the box, with the PTO, etc. Even has has 3 anti-rattle clips in a Ziploc bag. I was kinda wanting another wide frame hydro to hang tiller from permanently, but couldn't pass this up. Blade dimensions don't match Jeff's narrow frame blade.

zippy1 05-04-2015 01:09 AM

The sub frame is for a wide frame tractor. But the main frame and blade will go on either.:beerchug:

64fleetside 05-04-2015 07:51 AM

Rode the104 around the yard, steering somewhat loose but otherwise seems OK, brakes work.

SpringSpecial53 05-05-2015 01:23 PM

Blade for Wide Frame

Based on your picture and the direction of the pins for the Quick-Attach, I would say that you have a wide-frame blade. You can use the blade itself on the 104 if you can find a narrow frame sub-frame for it.:beerchug:

64fleetside 05-06-2015 12:06 AM

Been fiddling w/the 104, put the lift back on, pulled the carb to build, tightened up the PTO basket, found flywheel is loose also, and some spring(teaser?)on the clutch is broken. Got the engine loose, to pull it back to tighten the flywheel, put the carb to soak and called it a night. Its cool the blade is wide frame. Not sure if I'll keep the narrow frame but it is here, and too nice to part, IMO.

64fleetside 05-09-2015 11:28 PM

Pulled the engine, found flywheel nut finger tight, blipped it with the Ingersoll. Pulled the head, sure enough guy was right-.010 stamped on jug and piston, clean, cylinder still cross hatched. Planed the head on a sheet of glass w/220 taped to it.
Deck is surprisingly nice, all spindles loose, wooden roller intact as are both wheels.
Still had an IH belt on the deck.
Looks like PTO disc, one Frankenstein bolt,, and PTO thrust button are AWOL.
Somehow the PTO bearing is in tne clutch, locking collar still on the crank.
Liking this thing more and more.
Built Feb 1969, so it is one month older than me.

64fleetside 05-10-2015 09:40 PM

Got the engine back in, runs at proper speed now and horrible knocking from loose flywheel and PTO is all gone. Replaced a ton of missing bolts, got the steering box adjusted out. Gonna build the PTO clutch and try to mow w/it.

Lookin good, glad to hear you're makin progress.

Alvy 05-25-2015 07:52 PM

They look good mister fleetside, I see you're refusing to take you're medicine for yellow fever, that's a good sign. Btw don't get an original or any other model cub that you don't have because you will like those too!

64fleetside 05-25-2015 08:47 PM

Thanks David. Yeah its funny Alvy, I wasn't looking for another, but it found me. Lol. Kinda like it, the engine is rebored and runs really good, clutch is kinda noisy but works, almost ready to try out the deck once I get a PTO disc. Quit my job and haven't started my new one so bucks down. Down to 2 beers in the fridge...getting serious.

Ya just can't argue with that!

twoton 06-08-2015 06:48 AM

Glad to see you're still at it. New job going well?

64fleetside 06-08-2015 10:23 PM

So far so good David, a little tough getting used to the heat. But I accomplish stuff, rather than same old same old parts. Today I started a headliner job on a 65 GTO. Had some extra pay so two Deestones from the local tire dealer-went in @10:30 she had them at 2:30 for $130 tax incld. Buy local.
