Haven't got it started yet, have to mount the choke cable, and figure out where my starter ground runs to, and then I will re-connect the battery and should be good to go.:biggrin2:

Hey bud! I was farming yesterday and couldn't get back to you.

Did you find the timing window? If not, look here. If you still can't find it, pull the starter and look on the front of the flywheel housing. Sometimes it's kinda hid.

The starter grounds through the block. You can put a strap/wire from the mounting base to the frame if you want, but that engine bolts in the frame so it should be fine.

No problem! I realized it wasn't on the flywheel cover but on the bearing plate... Got it figured out! I'll see if I can get the ground wire to one of the starter mount bolts...:BangPC:

Awesome!! Did you remove the balance gears during your rebuild. I did on mine and other than watching her "shake like my sister Kate" a little, there is no difference (other than the obvious that it runs better after being rebuilt).

Yes I did, I need to adjust my idle speed a little faster but when she is at the idle she is supposed to be she runs like a top!

Now I need a new exhaust, new seat and put her back together and be good to go!

bocephus1991 10-23-2014 12:39 AM

Happy she's running good for you! What did you use for break in oil?

NE149 10-23-2014 12:43 AM

I have standard 30W in it now, we used it for assembly. I need a new fuel line hose, I've got one in there but it's too large, however I did get it to clamp down.

zippy1 10-23-2014 12:43 AM

Glad to hear it's running:beerchug:

J-Mech 10-23-2014 01:04 AM

Glad to hear you got it running! Go ahead and run 30wt oil. That's all I run in mine. :beerchug:

That's what I had thought ;)

Any suggestions for an exhaust elbow? I've been trying to find a threaded pipe elbow at local hardware stores with no success...

J-Mech 10-23-2014 01:07 AM

You just putting a regular muffler on it? Or a stack?

bocephus1991 10-23-2014 01:08 AM

So Jon , thought you used brad penn oil to break an engine in . Are you saying it's ok to use standard or low ash 30W?

I want to put a stack on... does the stack need a muffler? For the sake of back pressure? I don't care about noise... I'm young and learned early to wear ear plugs for everything :P:beer2:

J-Mech 10-23-2014 01:11 AM

I break engines in on the same oil as I'm going to run in it. I don't use synthetic. Penzoil 30wt or Rotella 30wt is what I run in all my Kohler engines. Standard, low ash.... doesn't matter.

Hope I understood your question right..... Is that what you wanted to know?

No, doesn't need a muffler for back pressure. There is truth to getting a stack on and the carb tuned. A stack can affect HP. On a stock motor, I doubt any that you will notice, I'm just saying. Anyway, hardware store should have what you need. I don't see why you can't find any. It's just 1" pipe. I suggest a long sweep, or 2 45°'s to make a 90°. That way it's not so abrupt of a turn for the exhaust gas.

Well the problem is finding a 1" threaded elbow that doesnt have a female end on it..l just want a male threaded end with bare pipe so I can weld a couple together and a stack... eh?:bigthink:

bocephus1991 10-23-2014 01:18 AM

Yep that's what I was asking. I'm gonna use IH low ash oil in mine to break it in and use in it. I haven't had time to finish assembling it, been working about 60 70 hrs a week. Thanks Jon !

So, your looking for a street "L" with the male thread but no threads in the female end? If so, you won't find one. They don't make them that way.

So how do they do it in a regular way? Buy the expensive elbow? lol... wonder if I can thread the piece of pipe itself...

J-Mech 10-23-2014 01:31 AM

I don't understand what you are asking.......

Yes, you can thread pipe. Some hardware stores will even do it for you, but you can buy pre-threaded pipe from about 1 1/2" to about 8" maybe 12" long...... :bigthink:

I really don't understand what you are wanting....

This is the long sweep Jon was talking about, not sure that you understood the term. You can weld a coupling inside an oversize stack and thread it on. Or you can cut the threads off and it will still be 90 degrees.
