882 mower belt adjustment?

I have an 882 that has the 50" deck. It says 50c for the model. I installed a new belt and a new adjustment spring. I believe I have the proper size Cub Cadet belt from my Cub dealer. It seems like the belt is too long, mabe an inch. It works perfect but I am at the end of adjustment on the Jhook. J hook sticks out the front like 4". It also seems like the one pulley is closer to the front than it should be. Do I have the wrong belt? Does anyone know the proper size and part number Cub Cadet belt if mine is wrong? Do I mabe have the wrong mule drive bracket? Here are some pics. Thanks!

The Belt is correct.

I would suspect, that the tension spring for LH Pulley (facing mule drive) is not installed correctly, thus not putting the correct tension on the belt. Don't ask me how I know this.

what holes do you have the mower frame and the front idler pulley bracket bolted in? I know the rear holes are used for the supers but there are 2 other sets if I remember right

I have a new spring installed and can only see one way for it to be installed. Do you have any pics of its proper installation? Thanks

I didn't notice any extra sets of holes. I will check in a few minutes and see if there are more than one set of mounting holes. Thanks.

It installs only one way, but the "tang" has to be properly positioned to apply the necessary tension.

I'll see if I can take a pic's this morning and post it.

Here are a few pics if the deck and how it's adjusted.

The "tang" is in the same position as mine.

Is your Mule Drive Pulleys IH-132496-C1-----> 756-3003 being a 4" OD...???

Mule drive pulleys are 4" od and deck pulley is 4 5/8".

Is the "travel" on the LH (spring loaded) pulley free to move...???

Diesel Krazy 06-29-2014 09:48 AM

When I replaced the spring I greased all the needed areas. The pulleys and mounts do move freely. Looking at the pics do I have the adjustment proper for the belt tension? Is it adjusted to the proper notch?

I noticed that the arms that connect to the Mule Drive are in the forward mounting hole. Mine are in the rear. This would shove the deck backward about 1/2". See pic and red arrow.

Took your advice and moved the mule drive to the rear set of bolt holes and moved the hangers that come off the lift to the foreward most holes on the mule drive and everything looks proper now. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help. I mowed 2 acres with the 882 yesterday and everything worked great. It's still hard to believe how little fuel this thing uses while mowing.
