Plastic Gas Tank

Have a Cub 123 with a completely rusted with holes STEEL gas tank! Do they make aftermarket PLASTIC tanks for these NARROW Frames or would a PLASTIC off a QUIET LINE series fit under hood of 123? I want PLASTIC ONLY!

I think if your looking for plastic only, your SOL:bigthink:

If not totally roached, the tank can be sealed with Red Kote. I did that to the tank on my 72 that had some pin holes in it. You can buy a qt. can of red kote from O'Reilly's auto for about $25, enough for a dozen cub fuel tanks.

But yes, you can buy a replacement tank from ccspecialties.org or one of the other sponsors. Or buy a used replacement from someone here or off ebay.

Check the for sale forum.

I've never done it myself, but I feel pretty sure a QL tank will bolt right in on your 123.

FWIW, I'm not saying they don't/can't have problems but the metal tanks are pretty good, I have them on all my Cubs (except my QL).

i have replaced plastic tanks on some of my big walk behind mowers i use for landscaping. one had small holes the other one was braking down so small peices of tank got in fuel fillter so i would look it over good before you buy one

I know this may make the purists cringe, but i bought a plastic tank from Sears for $30. My metal Quietline tank was rusted inside and had holes in it also and I wanted to be able to put a whole new clean fuel system in it. Check out my album to see picks of the motor and tractor with the retrofitted plastic tank.

Now you have...:biggrin2: Even if it's a bit of a "Frank"enstein tractor..

I wonder if a WF tank would even fit on a NF tractor? I certainly wouldn't mount a plastic tank on top of the engine as is done with the NF tractors.

What's that tank off of Frank? :bigthink:

That's a 1450 frame with a K301AQS, muffler and tank from a 1x8/9 series.

I noticed you mentioned not mounting a plastic tank on a NF I just picked up a 123 for my son and the metal tank is leaking (on the running engine super safe) are you worried about heat or vibration or ?? am I missing something like static electricity or?? trying to explain to a 3YO why we can't fill the tank up and drive it was really a tough conversation...

The q.l. tank will fit but there's a bump out between the straps that will cover the spark plug marking it hard to change
