Model 148

I am picking up a 148 this week. I have not been able to find any info specific to this model. It us hydrstatic with an electric lift. Any help would be appretiated. Thanks.

Hi Mike S 82:

1) IH did not make Cub Cadet gear shift of any series with 14 hp single cylinder Kohler engine.
2) An even number last digit with the "8" indicates a gear shift tractor of the 1x8/9 series.
3) A hydrostatic transmission will have an odd number digit in the last position.
4) A 14 HP Cub Cadet, with a Hydrostatic Transmission, of the 1x8/9 series will be a 149.
5) The serial number, found on a riveted tag at the left rear of the differential housing, will help you (us) determine the specifics of your tractor.

148

Well I have seen that suggestion other places, and I have also seen other people say they have 148's. My father has 2 of them, and I will be getting at least one of them this week. I will get pics and sn's and any other info I might need off of both of them. I know one has a newer K321 engine, but have not looked at the other.

Maybe we need to find out who is selling the 148 stickers and have a little talk with them. Just kidding, I hope to sort it out soon.

You said it's hydrostatic with a electric lift. That should be a 147 and not a 148. Like Myron said, if it's a hydro then it's either a 147 or a 149. Although, I'm leaning towards a 147. The 149 should have hydraulic deck lift. 147 came with electric lift.

Mike:

IH Cub Cadet NEVER made a 148.

:IH Trusted Hand:

Like Myron said, the information on the Model & Serial Tag will positively identify it. You could also post pictures of it... :WWP:

Mike: As AJ said.. the Hydrostatic 147 is also a possibility. Sometimes folks will install a higher horsepower engine in a Cub Cadet and give it a "Spoof" model number just for "fun & giggles". For instance, if a 14 hp engine had been installed in a 108 chassis, the owner may have then called it "148" and could even have had some decals made for it.....but that does not and will not make it an IH Cub Cadet Model number. Read again what Roland B said. IH Cub Cadet NEVER made a model with that number, no matter what you may have "heard" or read. Just post the data from the riveted tag at the rear left side of the differential and we'll all know what Model it left the factory as.

This is an 86 with a 14 horse power motor in it.

The motor is making more than 14 horse power.
To me it is still an 86.

yeah it might say 148 because i HAVE seen 148 decals on ebay that someone made. But they never made a 148. If it has electric lift id say its a 147. Wide or Narrow frame?:bigthink:

Maybe this was an April Fools joke...

It is a 147. Somehow I wrote down 148. My mistake. Thanks for all the input.

Cool!
Biggest Narrow Frame made! You're gonna love it!

dyt4000 04-06-2009 02:25 PM

You've got a nice tractor with that 147...congrats!

147

The price was definately right.

I got it running good over the weekend. The electric lift looks good except the magnets on the motor are shattered. The rest of the gears and shafts look good. Any chance of getting a new motor housing or find one used? I saw some complete motors, but the prices were high.

Congrats, on your 147 Mike! Good luck, with it.

Congrats, on finding a 147 Mike, it's a great tractor with plenty of power.
I love mine
