cub cadet 107 wiring HELP

guys, my 107 still only starts when i turn the key on and jump start it, then when i shut the key off it cranks until the battery dies, tried rewiring solenoid, heres some pics, had new wiring too.

cubcadet 07-05-2013 01:34 PM

maybe the solenoid or key switch is stuck:bigthink:

cubcadet 07-05-2013 01:35 PM

the safety switch, someone stuck wire in there:bigthink:

Have you tried cleaning the connections/terminals?

J-Mech 07-05-2013 04:25 PM

I think you wired the solenoid wrong. Does it start cranking when turn the key to the start position, then never stops? If so, you probably did. Battery (+) to one big sol post. (Doesn't matter which one.) From the SAME POST to the key. Start position on the key to the SMALL solenoid post. Other BIG solenoid post to the SG. I'm sure Roland has a pic floating around on here somewhere.

The jumper wire on the safety switch won't affect it. That is NOT causing the issue.

ok thanks, i tried wiring it correctly then put it back to the way i had it, im sure i have it right, i just tried a different VR didnt change a thing, didnt really clean the connections, i hope the wiring isnt burned up, i did have the wrong VR on it:bash2:

Try unplugging the ignition switch when it won't stop cranking. If it does stop there's two things that could be wrong. One being the switch has bridged connections inside and needs replaced or two the coil wire and starter wire got swapped somehow. Good luck with figuring it out

ok thanks:beer2:

There are also cases where the S/G will continually turn the engine over (no matter where the key is) when an incorrect V/R is installed.

cubcadet 07-07-2013 07:17 AM

the VR is incorrect but still worked for months

Help us out. What do you mean by incorrect? Is it a 4 wire with the "L" terminal on it? Or is it something else? Or is it a VR you took off a ??????

Yosemite Sam 07-08-2013 12:41 AM

I should rephrase my last post here.

There are also cases where the S/G will continually turn the engine over (no matter where the key is) when a "different" (different, meaning not exactly like the original) V/R is installed and not wired as the it (the new one) should be.

I don't think changing my post makes any difference, but it has been bugging me that I didn't really say what I really meant.

cubcadet 07-08-2013 08:59 AM

the VR is pretty rusty and off a old jacobsen chief, it has 3 posts on it for wires, the old one had 4, but this one did have another post on the back side of it so i put a wire there, i threw out the old VR because the rubbers on all 4 sides were rotted and broke off, does it have something to do with the SG :bigthink: i will get pics soon

cubcadet 07-08-2013 09:19 AM

the incorrect v/r

cubcadet 07-08-2013 09:20 AM

rusted v/r

cubcadet 07-08-2013 09:21 AM

dont know where this wire goes to, it was never hooked up even with the old v/r, there is also a disconnected wire under the dash never hooked up

cubcadet 07-08-2013 09:22 AM

unhooked wire

V/R

Hello Cubcadet,Too me your problem sounds like your V/R is wired wrong. You may want to visit the tech section of this forum and double check to make sure all the wires are were they belong. Also that prong on the back of some V/R's is not the ground.

Good Luck,Bruce

cubby102 07-08-2013 10:24 AM

Not sure on the v/r wiring but if that unhooked wire is purple/violet in color I'm pretty aure that is for headlights

cubcadet 07-08-2013 10:27 AM

yea, that is what im thinking, there is an unhooked thin wire under the dash to that is purple:bigthink:
