Got my 86
I posted a few weeks ago that my mother in law was giving me my first Cub, a CC 86. Went and got it last Tues., hauled it home in my livestock trailer.
Back story... it was given to MIL and FIL when they moved to their house at Buckeye Lake as a back up mower by a former neighbor, about 12 yrs. ago. It didn't run well, when they could get it started. The neighbor took the head off and said the exhaust valve was bad but couldn't find the right one for it. The head and piston top is all carboned up. It's been sitting in their barn on concrete for the last 10 yrs. at least according to the MIL. Tires look OK, still holding air like a champ, it's got surface rust and is dirty and everything is stiff from sitting. the motor turns and isn't locked up. Has a mower deck, haven't measured it yet, and no other accessories that I can see. Seat is perfect, not a mark or tear on it, decals look good. Goes into all gears, rolls easily. I want a worker so will try to get it running, change oil in engine and rear end, clean it up. Want to keep it original as I understand it is somewhat of a rare bird. I plan a restoration at some point in the future. Will need lots of help from you guys! Will get some pics to post this weekend. |
post pics we like pics :biggrin2:

I'm excited to see this. barn finds are so much fun
|
Sounds like a nice find. Yep, the 86's are a lower production model. Number five on the list.
|
Bring on the girl from the barn!! We need pics!!!
|
Cool deal. I have a 86 as well with no accessories and a 42 inch deck. Man that thing is surprisingly strong and I have enjoyed working it so far. Have fun with it.

I don't think the seat is original (is it?). The back fold forward, it adjusts back and forth, a good thing since I'm 6'2" and need the leg room. The frame is plastic with padded seat and back.
Dash question... what goes in the open hole above the throttle? More pics, engine this time... |
The seat isn't an original seat for the 86.

Mower deck ID (so, what size is this, 42"?) and tractor serial no. (partial, I believe)...
|
Cool "barn find" if it were mine, I would clear coat it to preserve the "barn find" patina.:biggrin2:
|
Might just do that, not going to paint it otherwise.
|
i clear coat my stuff, nice 86:beer2:

Nice looking 86! Still has the hard to find original muffler as a bonus!
A chrome cap goes in the hole above the throttle. |
Whiz
Found your 86! That is a good looking Cub. For a barn find you did real good. If you look at mine you can see why the seat was changed. Those seats did not hold up! I would think you might want to pull the engine and check for wear. Yes it would cost you some bucks but that is the heart of these. And a good engine in one of these is a sweet thing. Whiz what is the black plastic hand knob on the right side of the tunnel for? I am missing that knob on mine. Regards, Chris |
That knob is for attachment height adjustment. You are also missing the eccentric.

hole in dash
You could also put a cigar lighter in that hole.
