It's Alive!! (My 1100)
1 Attachment(s)
Well, the underdog 1100 I purchase in non-running condition finally fired up for me a few days ago. After a few victory laps around the neighborhood I took it back to the garage to tune the carb a bit...

Then the starter gave its last turn... Fortunately, I've got a new one on the way. It's not easy finding things for these old horizontal shaft B&S motors!!
I guess the prior owner used to smack the starter with a BFH when it acted up. No bueno!! |
As a positive note, if the PO's did not do things like
wack with hammer wrap with baling wire refill with wrong fluid let fuel go stale neglected to ____________(fill in the blank) then these machines would not be available to those of us NEW OWNERS that are enjoying them now!! :bigthink: The PO would still be running them!! :biggrin2: |
RLemke
Glad to hear you are up and running  |

BFH= Big Fat Hammer?
In my case, I would not have gotten my 147 if the PO new how to replace a fiber wear button on a PTO before it wore down to the point of chewing up the throw out levers and eventually gernading the bearing inside. |
Great to hear you got the 1100 running!:beer2:

Thanks!! Now to change the transaxle fluid, re-grease all the bearings and zerk fittings, get the mower blades sharpened, and ensure the PTO/mower deck is opperating well. I thought I got a pretty good deal on this thing (i still do), but boy, the parts list adds up quickly! At the end of the day though, i'd much rather have this old cub than a disposable plastic and tin riding mower...

A little gritty in there...

Almost finished, degreased the undercarriage, new grease in all the zerks, (need to replace 3 bad zerk fittings. Just needs a little paint touch up and the mower deck blades sharpened....
|
Looking good! Keep up the good work! Appreciate the pic.
|
I'm not very familiar with the 1100. Is that built on the same frame with the same fenders as the 1X8/1x9 and QL series? In other words, are the fenders interchangeable? (It looks like they are).
|
From what I've seen, it's the same as all the other QL series tractors. Differences are motor, drive shaft/belt, transaxle, and dashboard has no hour meter. Of course, the 1100 doesn't have side panels either, but it looks like they will fit.

Okay, when I first got my tractor home I knew I wouldn't paint it because the original paint was in pretty good shape w/ a few chips and scrapes here and there. I am a big fan of "patina" on an old machine and like to preserve it as long as its not too rusty. The only spots where the paint wasn't so good was the rear of the frame around the battery tray, the transaxle, and those darn front wheels. I touched up the frame and Peerless already, and today came the front wheels...

Your rims came out nice!

Paint is always nice! Looking good!

Thanks y'all! Well, it's off the jack stands and runnin'. Now it seems more difficult to put in gear. I'm sure I need to adjust the brake/clutch pedal next in addition to making sure the PTO and mower deck work! Oh, and the carb still needs a little tweaking.

Well here's the latest. Lucky for me the block is able to be bored out because my attempts to order an NOS small block came up with zero results.

Well, finally got my quietline back after waiting months for a motor rebuild (We wont go into that. Shop did a very messy job. Not happy about it). To add insult to injury, the wind caught the hood while in the back of my truck (must not have been shut all the way) and it broke the aluminum nose of my little tractor and mangled its face. Boo hoo!
|
Yikes!
Time for a new one! |
