Rear lights on my 124: Any suggestions?

I am adding rear lights to my 124 while it is down waiting on a shifter. I have a repro Grote light which I will put on, but I am thinking I will want a back-up white light in addition. The red Grote may be enough, but some white will be even better, or so my thinking goes. I am thinking TSC may have what I want.

I am planning on wiring the grote to the headlight switch, and am thinking of running the white light in parallel with the grote and possibly adding a switch near the white light to turn it off separately from the grote.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Just went through this on my 108. Put a pair of the Grote lights on, wired with the headlights. The toggle switch on my dash is a DPDT, so I wired it "UP" for headlights and tail lights, and "down" for a separate (LED) backup light. "center" is off. (I run dedicated grounds to all the lights) It's just an ordinary toggle switch. If your tractor is exposed to the weather a lot, you'll want a marine grade (Carling makes them) switch. Not sure what the cub cadet switch is, the one on my 149 seems to have three positions, but I haven't had time to check it out. If it does, it might serve the same purpose.

Sounds good, just remember to use a fuse!

How about a tractor light back there? This one uses the same bulbs as the headlights.

Methos, I got about the same light at Farm & Fleet for about 10 bucks. I have a separate toggle switch on the dash tower (with a fuse) that runs to the back of my 1450 with a two wire harness connector for my 25 gallon sprayer pump. I made a bracket for the light and just plug it into the harness. Then take it off in the spring. I also added a flasher unit off an old combine to my tail lights so they flash like hazard lights. Sorry about the picture quality. It's off my IPhone.

Steve I like that setup! I've got the light but haven't mounted it to anything yet. I've only have had it for a couple of years now.:biggrin2:

Thanks Duke....Now if I could only get some snow pushin' seat time after dark to see how bright it is...:bash2:

4SPEED 12-29-2012 08:28 PM

I have a set of them, just not mounted yet. I want to make it look stock and not drill any holes or weld any brackets. :bigthink:

I may just use the hitch hole and quit over thinking it.

4SPEED 12-29-2012 08:32 PM

steve59, I love the tool box on the back.

steve59 12-29-2012 08:43 PM

4SPEED....I just mounted it to a L-bracket and bolted it to a factory hole that was in the rear of the frame. Easy on, Easy off. I also put in Halogen headlight bulbs.

4SPEED 12-29-2012 09:47 PM

and it looks really good... I would need to use rubber washers so I didnt scratch the paint.

I know, I know...... im anal about my cubs. :bash2:

steve59 12-29-2012 09:50 PM

Ditto there 4SPEED ....My tool box is rubber washer mounted too!!

While I had the tractor split, waiting on a replacement shifter, I installed these lights. The Grote is a repro, and the white light is a TSC light. Wanted a round one, but it didn't please me as well as the rectangular light.

Thanks for everyone's input, suggestions, and discussion!

Happy New Year to all!! :beerchug:

Here are the lights I put on my 108. The tail lights are switched with the headlights and the backup up light is separately switched. It's not in the best spot, but I took the easy way out and bolted it through the hitch hole so I didn't have to drill a hole.

Muzzy 12-30-2012 07:01 PM

nothing wrong with that. Looks good.

Here are the now-working lights on my 124. Fixed the shifter today, re-coupled tractor, and got lights working!! You can see the reflectors really work with the camera flash!

I think I might use a set of these for my 108 headlights. Seems simple enough and I'm not worried about stock. Thanks!

ACecil 01-02-2013 11:27 PM

They look great, John!

Methos 01-03-2013 11:06 AM

John that turned out great!:beerchug:
