125 , Things Im Working On (Fixing)
6 Attachment(s)
I think I found some more of the PO's cob work. I have tons of slop at the pivot point. I was going to shim it but found this piece (looks like) drive shaft in it with a 1/4" bolt holding it in. Id think it should be a bolt. right?
the spindels have play in them too. Im going to get some 1" shim bushings and drill the holes in the axle to fit the shim and press them in. that should take out the play in them. I'll do the same to the rear hitch , the holes in the frame that the rod rubs on. the frame holes are egg shaped. might just weld them and re-drill the holes and make a new rod. I installed the spring assist , thats a tight fit. new pump filter , as it looked like it was put on with channel lock pliers. :bash2: new fan and should installed |

a few more pics, I know how we love pics.
by the time im done fixing things , this cub will have all new paint on it . lol |
Looks like progress, Doug! Keep it going, I need the inspiration to get my 125 split and clean up my hydro. I want to see how your spindle slop repairs go, too. Always wondered how to shim or fix the slop in the stems...
|
The filter was so tight on my 125 that I bent my filter wrench. I had to borrow the spring one from a friend to get it off. I thought for sure my long handle rachet was going to bust.

That front axle pin is factory I don`t think they started putting bolts in them until the 82 series .

Thats what all my cubs are getting when I get around to it. |
Good work already! It's always "interesting" to observe shadetree work... less interesting to fix it sometimes!

Looking good 4SPEED
Great pictures also, I can never seem to get nice closeups like that  |
Doug,
Great shots! I agree the close ups show me what mine looks like before I get into it. Makes me want to do a complete restoration on the one I have too. Whats up with 125's they seem to be dominating the treads or is it just me? Looks like you will have new paint on all of it if you don't stop soon! Did you see the 125 on the front cover Cadet Connection! Wow is it sweet. Your front axle looks very nice. All that body work you do shows! Keep the pictures coming! Its going to look great with the tiller on the back. Regards, Chris |
LOL thanks. I almost forgot about the #1 tiller.
I need to change the gasket on the back cover. is there a way to save the trans fluid? it cost to much to change just because I need to do a gasket. thought about clean milk jugs , then after a week or so change the filter. |
Doug,
Unless you just put in a lot of new oil, here is my 2 cents. When I tore into the hydro on the 147 I drained the fluid with the intent on changing it anyway. So it went into the oil recycling. Here is what I found, 30 years of sludge in the bottom of the case. So I cleaned that out. Changed the filer and put in new hytran oil. You wont have to change it again for another 30 years? Regards, Chris |

Looking good 4SPD.
You might take a look at the bracket that the axle runs in, they tend to splay out. |
If you use a bolt through your front axle, you have to machine off about half of the head or it won't clear the sump on your oil pan.

the oil still looks good (looks) im going to hold off on the gasket for now. its not leaking but a drip maybe every few day or so. takes a week to get a smaller then a dime size spot. |

would a dealer replacment engine have a flat oil pan? I'll have pics of it installed tonight. |

pics of the bushing I put in. there is still a very very little bit of play in it. my guess is because the spindle is worn down to a little too. but its more the 75% better then it was.
added a few other pics that I did. |
Good job! :beerchug:
|
If that isn't a deep sump oil pan, you have a K241 and not a K301. Somebody might have turned that into a 105 at some point.
|
Doug,
This 125 is really looking all cleaned up and shiny! Nice work! Regards, Chris |

the shim is a machine shim 18ga. it took some doing to get it in , but shes tight now. the only play in it now is the bearings in the wheels. I'll change them out when my try ribs get here. and a before and after of the wheels and tires. |
Nice!
You do really good work ...and quickly!
That tractor really has spent some time pulling things, to hog out that towing pin hole, hasn't it? You're really rocking in that thing. I bet that 125 is glad it landed in your shop :-) John |
Very nice job there Doug!
Yeah when I get around to fixing 102-D I'm going to have to do the same with the front end as you did as the spindles are VERY sloppy and you just gave me the perfect fix, thanks. |
Spindle
How did you fixture your axle to make sure you drilled the oversize hole exactly parallel to the original bore?

Coming along nicely Doug.:beerchug:

I see the bolt is now in place holding the front axle. I hate to back you us a step, but, I have seen others just tighten that bolt to take out the slop of the frame to axle fit. Without the shim, the axle/frame joint will be slightly stronger. |
Looks like a nice job on the 3 point.Your motor has a flat oil pan so it is a K241

The (earlier) K301 and K241 flywheel shrouds are interchangeable. I think the later K301 engines, i.e. QLs, may have had the larger flywheel, but I can't remember.
