I would go for it. Aslong as the engine isnt smoking or has lost power it should be alright. Change the oil and see what it does from there. And if you have to rebuild it you can do it yourself alot cheaper and have a learning experience that you will cherish and never corget.

Agreed! :beerchug:

But, if you were to change the oil (Defiantly should if you buy it) and see shavings.....I would recommend going ahead and taking the engine mounting bolts out while your down there, as if you keep running it with a bad (loose) rod..You would most likely be costing yourself more money, when getting it fixed.

That really sounds like the typical QL hood/muffler box/side panel rattle to me. Also, if the mounts are shot, the wing nut for the air cleaner will hammer against the side panel.

Matt I have to agree with you. even piston slap doesnt sound that sharp, that has to be sheet metal.

Open the hood, take off the side panels, I bet your rattle will go away. if not, wiggle all the sheetmetal on the engine. Something has to be loose somewhere.

depends what you have when it is opened up. most of the time you can't just rework the crank and put it back together and have a working engine.
I would say if you get the right person you could get the work done and have some money left.

Woke up this am and decided not to be tempted and show up at that rat race of a rummage sale. THe seller said the inbox was jammed full about the CL add for the cadet, when I went to test drive it

Decided I want no part of a bidding war.

Would be nice if a forum member winds up with it so we find out whats wrong with the noise!

UPDATE!!!
well....i stayed away from the rummage sale all day today. at 5pm it was posted again on CL and was packaged WITH the snowthrower at a reduced price.

I contacted him and gave my best offer, and he accepted!!!

Got it for a price I am very comfortable with-- even if I have to pay for engine work!!

look what followed me home!! I am SOO excited. The power this thing has is UNREAL compared to any compact tractor I have driven
