Here is my plan:
take my nice finished 104, add in a k301 and transfer hydro setup from 107 . They are both narrow frames, and the dash from the 107 is good, but the steering tower is scrap on the 107 , so is the frame. I feel it would be a smooth transfer, and foresee no problems. So do you guys know if I would run into a wall? ![]() |

That ain't gonna work...
the hydro controls are different. You also have to change the release valve setup. How are you gonna stop it,the brake setup is different also.125 is internal and the 107 is a disc brake setup. Check the parts manuals and see what I mean.

There were gear drive and hydro symmetrical frames and tunnel setups throughout all runs. My 104 has provisions in the steering tunnel upright for hydro controls. Also, in the side near fenders for the release valve handle. The 107 has a cover plate on the fender pan for a gear drive handle to come through. The 104 had internal brakes. 107 had external brakes. Both work off the same rockshaft. (I may be wrong there... I will see tomorrow, work permitting. ) If the rockshaft is different, I have the correct one from the 107...

OK here is some disassembly and comparison progress on the conversion:
pic 1 compared to pic 3 I need to drill 4 holes for vertical hydro control support. Pic 2 is the dash tin from 107 to be transferred over pic 4 is the 104 that is the new base frame of this conversion. Duals included, geardrive rear excluded. ha ha pic 5 is the k301 engine going in after cleanup. turns over smooth, and oil looks good for sitting so long. 6 is inside view of 107's dash hydro control tensioner- What a MESS 7 - The 107 has a metal cooling fan! And its perfect!! What a Plus!! 8 - Need to change oil and filter!! I bet this is factory filter! 9 - What's this cutout in frame for? I have seen no useful reason to cut the 104 frame to match. 10 - distant view for relation to whole tractor of cutout. |

Cut out on the frame(107) was for a inspection cover to get to the damper plate on the hydro...ah...not sure if the dash cowl will fit the tower on the 104 and the tower on the 107 is different from the tower on the 104. I did a conversion on a 125 to a manual shift. I'd say a little more easier than what you may/will go through...good look'n 104 rollin' dually!

Thanks for the compliment! Back to that inspection cover: What could you get to that was so special? I looked and looked , saw nothing servicable with the cutout. you can look and see the cam pin move. Is that it?

spent most of today cleaning up old grease preserved parts. Boy , they were ugly! But, Look what I found!! Nice Clean hydro, and engine
And Finally, some last pics of the 104 assembled as most have seen it thus far. Im headed back out to strip it down to frame rails. I have decided to use the 107 upright tunnel for now. The control handle will not give up. Im gonna feel real dumb in winter when it does come off and I dont want it to! I will be putting the set screw in it. ![]() |

Love the duals, William! I have a question. Where did you get the rear tires? I need one set for my 100. Thanks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
