Setting WOT
I read a post supported my Matt, (Are one stage blowers lame?), that all powered attachments, (mowers, tillers, snowthrowers,etc.), should be operated @ WOT. I think WOT on my 1450 is 3600 rpms, under load. What would I use to set WOT on a Kohler? I have a vibratach, but don't put much stock in it. Can't find a dwell meter, (am I showing my age!), for a single cylinder either.

Kirk Engines also makes an anolog tach that looks really nice also. I just wish it would work on a KT..

I saw the tech at the local small engine shop had a pocket tach that all he had to do was hold it within six inches of the plug wire. When I asked him where he got it he said it was a promo from Stihl as he is a dealer. He did not know where to get another. Any one else seen any thing like this before?

Nice tach
Found these on Evil Bay. Not for K series, but they do work, (ya just have to double the RPMs). $14.45 + free shipping. Fits great between the gauges on the top left side of the dash.

Using a Tach
Am I thinking this correctly?
If you use a Tach with the wire wound around the spark plug wire, you would want to set it for 1800 rpm? Firing every other turn of the piston would mean you are measing half the revolutions wouldn't it? Dave

The tach will read correctly. We use them on my nephews racing karts. 4 stroke Briggs flat heads. When the tach reads 3600 rpms you are at WOT. We usually run right around 6000 rpms for the race motor.
