The k161 on my Original is acting kinda weird. It'll run and then all the sudden the rpm's will run up and then it'll shut off. Then the motor will act locked up. I grab it with a pair of pliers and get the motor to turn. Then it'll start up again. What is going on?

The Governor arm may not be tight on the cross shaft.

But what would make the motor act like it is locked up and I got to grab it with pump pliers and spin it to free it. It has good oil in it no water

Never seen it happen to a Kohler, but I guess it could be getting hot enough to seize the engine.
In any event, it's not a good thing, I think I'd be finding out what the problem is before you ruin something.

Your S/G could just wore out. If it's going, they can do that when their hot.
Could also be the compression release not working. I agree the governor could be goofed up. We really need more info. You didn't really give much to go off of.

I'm pretty sure I figured out the problem the starter/generator doesn't have enough to turn the motor over I pulled it apart and would a wire coming off the field to the post that was in bad shape and when I was messing with it it broke

Well I put a different generator on it and still the same problem it'll try to turn over but once it comes to the compression stroke I've got nothing I took the spark plug out and the motor will spin all day long put the plug back in and nothing

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
