I know you need to add a relay or change to a different key switch. The ignition on a KT17 is powered and a magnum the ignition is grounded to kill it i believe. I could be wrong.

Default m18 in a 782

I've done 2 now everything hooks up just fine but the wiring does need changed all I did was added a kill switch [push button] to ground the magneto to shut it off .the wiring connector at the engine I took the wire that went to the kt17 coil out of the connector [tractor side] and ran a new wire to the switch that I added in the hole to the right of the key switch and another wire from the switch to ground.you could also use a toggle switch...I just did 1 last year for my brother and I thought I could use a switch from an 1806 but I found that the same wire that powered the coil also powers the pto switch...dale c.

Using a relay is the simplest. Install the old ign wire to power the relay on terminal #85. Use terminal #30 on the relay to run to the mag wire, and ground the #87a and #86 terminals. You can use Standard Ignition relay part #RY115 or Borg Warner relay part #R3074. They are about $15 and available at most anywhere auto parts are sold.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
