Going to get a 1450 - asking for advice

I'm heading out in 2 hours to look at a 1450 based on photos the seller sent me. The tractor comes ith a 44" deck that looks like it sat in the rain upside down for some time, a #2 tiller that is complete, a set of IH wheel weights and a non-IH box scraper. It has headlights with it too. The tractor looks like it sat in the weather for a long time too.

I know about iso mounts in QL tractors. What else should I look for? This is the first hydro I have ever seen much less dove or owned. I grew up on a 122, 108 and a 1000 that I now own. It's a 2 hour drive one-way so I want to know what I am getting into. Over the years I have read quite a bit about hydroststic Cub Cadet here and in other places online so I am not completely uninformed. Any advice is appreciated..

Don't sweat the hydo., In typical cub fashion of that era they are way overbuilt. There are a few quirks in the controls that come up from time to time, but actual Hydro problems are few and far between.

I would say if it starts, runs and moves for the most part you are good to go. Remember that you are looking at a 40 yr.old machine, expect to have to do some work to make it 100%.

The 1450 is on my truck in the driveway. This is the skinny:

The Good:

The #2 tiller is in excellent shape and complete. The rear guard is there as well as the belts. The tines how little wear. the sheet metal is straight.

The tractor has the three point hitch and OEM IH wheel weights. The engine runs and you can drive the tractor. The side covers came with it.

I came with a three point scraper that looks like a IH mount but the scraper is painted black.

The Bad:

The tractor is rough. The wiring is a mess. You have to hotwire it o start it. Someone put an automotive battery on it so they shimmed up the seat using square tube. The fenders are bent in several places. The front casting on the hood is cracked off. The fiberglass dashboard needs replaced including the dash tin. When he engine is running the entire dash and support vibrate. The hydro controls are tough to move.

The lift handle cracked and the linkage is missing so I couldn't operate it. The seal between the pump and trans is leaking.

The mower deck may not be worth salvaging. The spindles feel good so I will grab them if it isn't worth saving.

The Ugly:

It spent a lot of time outside in the rain and sun. Rust, faded stickers and a screwed up seat.

I may have a source for for a wide frame creeper. If I can get it I'll run the tiller behind my 1000 after moving the 3 point hitch over to it. That I'll buy me time to fix the 1450.

It's late here and I have been gone for 6 hours. I'll post pictures next weekend.

Sounds like it has a few bad issues, but there seems to be positives as well. As long as you feel it was money well spent, then you did good, congrats on your tractor

My 1650 I bought a few years ago was in similar condition - engine was even unbolted and isolators were out of it. I think that's where the PO gave-up.

Hit and miss effort on my part and in about 18 months got it back together. It's a nice tractor and believe it or not, the Quiteline tractor I have is actually quiet!
