i picked up an iron rear last week from a 105. i decided i wanted to try it out in my 1772 since i had a few stripped bolts and this cub will be getting my backhoe put on it. so i pulled the aluminum rear out last weekend and started the tear down. i pulled all the gears out of both rears and put the super gears into the iron one. i have never set up gears before so it took me a few try's to get the shims correct but i think i have them set up pretty well. as of now i have the rear back together and ready to go back in. i know there will be some playing around with the fuel lines/tank to get the everything to fit correctly. wish me luck, ill be updating as i progress.

Good luck and looking forward to your updates! The aluminum rear that was in my 1872 was replaced with a cast iron one last year.

If you have a rear PTO installed on your super, does that mean you cannot use a CI rear end on it without losing the rear PTO?

the super 3 points and PTOs are different from the iron setup. i know Xtream sells a cat 0 for the iron rears. doesn't have PTO tho.

I'm pretty sure that you need the aluminum rear with the rear PTO.

Looking good. When you get the rear back in measure the space between the 2 adapters and I'll have the shaft welded up and send it to you. Also need to send you 3 longer bolts for the adapter for the engine, FrankF3 got some longer bolts that I like better that the 3 I sent to you. Looks like between the way Cub describes the bolt length and the way McMaster describes them I ended up with 50 bolts that are shorter than they should be. If the fuel tank looks like it will be an issue maybe these guys can do a custom one for you http://www.boydwelding.com/shop/ or at least it will give you some ideas. ![]()

982's use a cast rear with pto, all you need is the CI rear cover. If you have a super, the only cat 0 to use is the Bill Ruegg hitch.

Looks like the switchover's going smooth. Todd's right, you'll need a cover from a 982 for a rear PTO if ya want one. You'll have to let us know how the fuel tank and such fit. I was always told the cast iron rears caused a problem on super diesels due to clearance issues and the fuel tank.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
