Smile Hydraulic Unit on a 123

Just got a complete hydraulic unit and manual. The manual said that I need to cut off the lift handle assembly.....Yikes!!! I hate to cut into original parts. Is this absolutely necessary or is there some other way of getting this hydraulic unit hooked up by slipping the handle assembly off. Of course, I could just buy a second lift handle assembly and cut into it and swap it out.....any other ideas? Also, why does the manual recommend that I drill three holes on the opposite side of my frame, even though no bolts or ancillary parts get attached on the driver's LHS to install this unit. Hydro 67.....can you offer any advice or pictures of your set-up? Thanks!!!

The handle has to be cut off. You can buy a second lift that needs work done to. Any narrow frame lift handle from a 70 to a 147 will work.

My manual says (page 5) you need to drill three 13/32 inch holes on the right side of frame and two 9/32 inch holes (sitting on seat) on the top left side part of the frame (clutch shield bolts to frame). Page 7 has a picture where to drill.

I did not drill the 2 extra holes to hold clutch shield to frame on my 100 .

It looks like your implement lift is modified more than what needs to be done. I have a spare modified implement lift that I will post pictures of tomarrow.

What is the tube welded on the clevis assembly that goes on the end of the hydraulic cylinder rod use for?

Here are a few pictures of my hydraulic system on my 100:

Smile Thanks guys!!!

Merk and 67 Hydro (Jason)....Thanks for the pictures!! That helps a lot. I'm curious, too, about the tube at the top of the cleavis fitting. Is that for an implement rod? My brochure states that if you have a 42" blade, that the rod will need to be reworked (cut).....is that tube for an implement rod, Jason? I'll need to modify mine to fit....I think. I don't think that I will have to do that with my CW36 snow blower rod, though. It is in the process of being blasted and powder coated.

Merk, I like how you have reworked/modified your shroud. That looks professionally done. Now, I wish my tractor was as cleaned up and reconditioned as much as yours!! I don't think that I will drill those two holes in the shroud either---If it's not broke....don't fix it!!!

Jason, the pictures that you showed with the overhead view of the unit were a big help.......particularly the one that showed how you had re-routed your wiring harness, because the manual I have wasn't very clear with respect to how I should re-route the harness. I appreciate your pictures that you took......hope you didn't get too dirty in your good clothes!!! I plan on getting the drill to the metal this weekend if I have time after attending a tractor show in Portland, Indiana......Merk, that's not too far from your stomping ground!!!! Maybe you can make it!!!

Thanks again for all of your extra assistance.

With much appreciation,
Cub Cadet 123

CC123,Merk
ah.....I dont know what the tube is for!!!lol.I assumed it was factory!!I disengauged the "holder" and it lifts up and down what i think is to lift deck,I have never owned nor personally seen a CC mower deck and how it attaches lifts mows ,ect,ect......I would LOVE to have one for the 70 and 123!!!One day.I have a printed install instructions for the Hydraulic lift but have only thumed through it,its the install instructions.I will read it as a bed time story tonight!!
Merk,Im in total agreeance i love the way the shield is modified on your tractor

Obviously mines a home brewed lift system for whatever its suposed to lift from under!!It will be good at scraping the skin off my ankle !!
I use it to lift the tiller and plow,it was installed when I bought the tractor(The Hydraulic unit) so the external modifications i cant claim.I did discover an extra hole behind the bracket and tonight was the very first time i removed it from the holder,it waws actually a pain!!

This is what I'm using in my 100:

My finger is pointing the pin that connects to the rear 3 point hitch:

You can see where the lift arm was cut off:

This rockshaft assembly I'm using is for a electric lift set up. The connection point that goes to hydraulic lift and lift bar attaching plate is welded on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
