Hello all, my 10 year old has been itching to get a pulling tractor for a year or two, so this past October he found a 149, that needed some TLC. I got it running in time for our fall festival pull, which he placed I believe 4th, not bad as there were quite a few tractors in the class. So this winter we brought it in the basement where we completely striped it down and are in the process of rebuilding it now. in fact I am waiting for my valves and guides to arrive so I can send the block to the machine shop. Is there any good quality parts suppliers you all can recommend, or even a company we can purchase IH or cub related stuff from? I grew up in the IH family because my step father was the service manager at our local dealer forever, but they have since closed. I have been waiting over a week now and its frustrating, My wife ordered these off of Ebay, and im not even sure what brand they are going to be.

Most of the parts off eBay are just fine, many members have rebuilt there engines with eBay parts without issue myself included. The 149 isn't the best choice for a puller as its hydrostatic, pullers stick to the gear drive cubs. That said congrats on 4th place and good luck with the pulling tractor.

Thank you gentleman, after making a big fuss about the parts they arrived Sat. morning, so Im dropping the block off at the machine shop today after work. Theres a few parts were searching for, but there is quite a few cub collectors around so its just a matter of hooking up with them. here is a shot of my son the day we got the tractor.

The machinist looked at the block, said were gonna have to bore it out slightly, but said my valve guides were fine, he'd rather see them on the loose side. Any thought on this?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
