Pulling hitch recommendation?

Hi Guys,

Any recommendations for a garden tractor pulling hitch?

I saw one available from Micco Performance with an adjustable drawbar and trailer hitch combo. I like that so my son can pull at events and still use the trailer for other uses at home.

Any advice and recommendations greatly appreciated.

On what kind of a puller? I went through your posts and don't see anything on a tractor you pull with. If you are just taking a bone stock tractor to the local fair, or using a hydro tractor, save your money.

The tractor for pulling is a stock 1979 Quietline 1650 which has the hydro and not ideal for pulling as I understand. I checked with folks in the local club before purchasing the tractor and they didn't advise me to stay away from the hydro. Perhaps my interpretation of their information is lacking details.

Is it really a bad idea to even bother pulling with the stock 16HP 1650?
I guess we will just have fun on our property and in the neighborhood if pulling with a hydro is a totally worthless effort.

Maybe they figured you'd be easy competition. :biggrin2:

I wouldn't bother pulling it, but you can do whatever floats your boat.

I'll trade you for a gear drive, then you can pull all you want.

corporalk,

Member Daniel_110 picked up a 149 for his kid to pull with;

maybe it's not the ideal setup but if you're havin fun, who cares?

Maybe you could PM him and see how it turned out...:bigthink:

As you already know, pulling with a hydro isn't the best, but (depending on your sons age) go ahead and start him out with the 1650. If he doesn't really get "into it" then you're not out anything, if he does end up liking it, then you can adjust your plans accordingly.

To me, it's all about how much you enjoy whatever you're doing, when it becomes tiresome or an unpleasant experience, it's time to try something different.

Good Luck

most hitchs are good, only recommendation I'd have is if you build a second tractor or pull with a buddy. use the same hitch manufacturer. makes life easier

I used my 147 for a pulling tractor and out pulled gear drive tractors. It all depends on your setup. I used the stock hitch that came on the tractor

Couldn't agree more. The gear drives you beat weren't set up right. :biggrin2:
