353 snowblower worm gear brass

I just picked up a 2007 model 353 snowblower for my GT 3200, and the owner had the gearbox apart to show me the wear on the brass gear. He hit some roots with a real bolt in the shear pin hole and and the brass gear shows some marks, although it’s really not that bad. I bought a new one, but when I measured its location on the shaft, I found it one quarter inch off center. Does anyone know if the brass gear is supposed to be centered on the shaft, or is it right at one quarter inch off
