Default 1864 hydrostatic pump problem

First off thanks everyone for accepting me into the community.

My 74 yo father in-law is searching for answers. His pride and joy is a 1864 is sitting, not mowing. We tried to replace it with a brand new Kubota zero turn, and I quote "its junk dont mow worth a darn." There was a leak coming from the pump somewhere. He removed it sent it out it and was returned with a worse leak. Tear down again and shipped out. This is where I come in, cause they couldn't get it back on. I got it back in place not leaking. HOWEVER when you start it the steering wheel will spin counterclockwise not stop .. with force you can stop it but it takes effort. You cannot turn the wheel clockwise at all and the wheels don't turn whatsoever. I didn't see it prior nor can I find a good diagram how it goes, just kind of put the steel lines where they lined up. Any questions comments concerts suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First, welcome to OCC.....

On the Steering issue, sounds like the lines are not plumbed right.

That seems to be the same diagram I have but different part numbers not that that matters. What do you mean by plumbed ?

That is a standard industry term meaning the same as "piped up correctly".

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
