Hey all, kinda new here. I have a 75 or 76 ih cub 1200. Its honestly the only mower I have ever known lol. My dad purchased it new and I grew up on it. I just picked it up from the family home last year and used it during last winter to plow the drive with. Worked great but was gong through fuel realy fast. So now I am getting it ready for comming winter. Bungied down the tire chains started to actualy put some love back into it. New air cleaner, spark plug oil etc. But again last winter I coudlnt fill the tank and mainly due to the fact that gas was leaking out from the bottom of the carb so I went and purchased a kit for it. I have searched and seached now. I am sure eventualy I will find a video and I am somewhat mechanically inclined and I have a general Idea of how to but I just want to make sure here of how to get this carb off the motor properly. I see the 2 bolts but is there a trick? and what or how do I set the float once I get to that jazz?
I can post some picks of it once I take some but the tractor is in pretty good shape considering after my dad died that it sat in a barn with a damp sand floor for a few decades lol. I do plan on getting another deck one of the days for it and hopefully it'l be running for my grandchildren ![]() Sorry for being long winded. |

Once you have the air cleaner base off you should be able to unhook the linkage and then remove those 2 bolts, you will have to use a wrench and work from one bolt to the other loosening a couple turn then going to the other for a couple turns. Setting the float is easy, set it by flipping the carb upside down and the hinge side should be lower than the other side and if its not you can use a flat head screwdriver to bend the tab up a little.

First, take a few photos from several angles of the carb linkage. You'd be surprised how fast you'll forget which control rod went where! This way you don't have to remember a thing.
You might not have to adjust anything on the float, the overfill problem could just be a worn out plunger/seal, which will be rectified when you put the kit on. No real trick to removing the carb, just undo the two screws and pay attention to what kind of gaskets and spacers are between the carb and engine. Get a gallon of carb dip to soak it in, and get that sucker clean! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
