Default 125 Hydro W/ Tiller and Doesn't Run

There is a local guy that has a 125 Hydro with a tiller for sale. He says it doesn't run but will turn over. He hasn't had time to look at it so he says. It has been up on Craigslist for over a month even though it says 7 days. There are old ads. He is asking $485. I would never give him that much for it. I was curious if was worth the effort or time to look at it. It's in rough shape but doesn't look to half bad.
Thank you for your responses...here is the ad

Belt is off the tiller, wonder why. Black engine, probably a replacement and not the original.

I saw the same thing with the belt. And i as well saw the black motor. And the guy that I have been contacting does not seem the most intelligent and does not seem enthusiastic. Any other opinions?

Id at least go check it out. Spin the motor by hand backwards feel for compression. Lift tiller up make sure it turns freely...

If the engine is a replacement, that may be a GOOD thing, as in low hours. The dealer dad worked for would often recommend engine changes if the original had been rebuilt before, the carb was worn out, muffler bad---it was a lot cheaper in the long run. I think they ordered the replacements from Kohler, not Cadet.

I prefer tractors with the black replacement in them, I've never had one that didn't run like a champ. As for the price it think $485 is a bit high but I think $350 to $400 wouldn't be to bad if everything checks out. My landlord had a cub he bought and then spent the entire summer trying to get it running, once he gave up on it he gave it to me and all it took to get it to run is a piece of sandpaper between the points.

Gotta love those quick and easy fixes. He said he has had someone offer 425 cash. So I will sit on it. See if someone buys it or not. I will go check it out still just to see the condition

I offered him $350 and he said he is going to part it out. I guess more power to him and I say good luck. Thank you all your responses and time

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
