Default Mini Manure Spreader

I had been looking for a way to spread sawdust or other organic material for a while. I saw these on the manufacturers web site a while back, but the price tag ($995 for the cheapest model) kept me from even thinking about it.

For the last couple of weeks I've been driving by what I thought was a little dump cart. Today I decided to stop and take a look at it. I ended up paying $300 and bringing it home.

This is the companies smaller model. It's 5 years old and has barely been used. It was ready for a little maintenance, so I spent about 45 minutes on it before putting it away.

The axle was beginning to rust and the wheels were on backwards (forward facing), so I cleaned both sides, greased it and the bearings, and put the wheels on right (rear facing).

I put a little sawdust in it to see what kind of flow rate it has. It worked very well and put down an even 1/2" layer. I wanted to be able to put it on a little thicker, so I used my drill and made the non-adjustable gate on the small model that allows material to flow out into an adjustable gate. That is an $80 option from the factory.

That's either a fertilizer, salt or sand spreader. Not a manure spreader. The wheel were on correctly. When "V" tread wheels are used to drive something (not being driven) they should be installed "backwards".

Nice score anyway!

Thanks. I guess I didn't explain the wheels right. The last pic is how I put them on.

These people need to advertise better. Nobody I talk to has ever heard of them. The guy I bought it from used to have miniature horses. I have Model 100 - https://www.newerspreader.com/

I thought the last pic was the way you got it. Makes sense now.

Maybe I don't understand how it works....... It looks like a sand spreader to me. How does it kick large manure out of it????

Edit: I found the videos. Now I understand. I take back my original statements..... all of them apparently.

Cool machine. Doubt it could handle the manure that comes out of DC, sorry but I just had to go there.

X2 on the cool spreader!

Sam I don't even think any of your old quarry machines are big enough to pull that spreader!

I agree, cool little machine! Nice find! Is there some kind of engage lever to activate when it starts to spread?

Thanks everybody. I agree on the DC subject.

There are little mechanisms on each wheel to make it go. The wheels just freewheel till you kick them in. As J-Mech mentioned, a video explains it better than I can - https://www.newerspreader.com/our-spreaders/videos

I think DC does a fine job of spreading manure already.

Nice looking spreader, looks like a great little attachment.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
