I have been working on my 1450 and have everything running and working fine except when put it into reverse, nothing happens. No indication of wanting to go backwards at all. Forward works fine. The lever is moving the linkage at the back. Can see it moving to go forward and what seems to be the reverse of it to go back.
Could it be a stuck valve like the problem I had with the dual controls (which work great now). There is no leakage showing on the valve tops on top of the hydrostatic unit. I don't know much about these units but do understand how in principle they work.

I think the "valve test" is to swap them. Then you should have no forward.
![]() That's the two valves on top of the transaxle, the big hex thingies!! ![]() Sam Mac knows somebody that rebuilds them.

So those are the valves for forward and reverse?
I will swap them and see what happens. Thanks for the insight.

I had the exact same thing happen to my 782...no reverse, then I thought "Life's too exciting to try to go back. Who needs to go back in time?...I like seeing what is in my future and I've already lived my past so I will only go forward from now on!!!"....haha...No seriously, it sounds like a relief valve needs replaced/fixed. Probably not a bad time to check that hydraulic fluid and filter, too!

So, what you are saying, is, in your case, it is not the valve,
it is the flux capacitor!! ![]() That is located under the dash!! ![]()

One of the first things I did was check the fluid. It was full and looked clean. I was surprised. I am going to switch the valves in a few minutes and see what happens.

Yep, bad valve. I will try and fix it tomorrow. I have access to a machine shop with lathes, welders and all the o-rings I could possibly want.
Another thing, why do owners never grease their steering box? All three of mine needed grease really bad. Does wonders for the steering when you have some grease in there. Getting done with the oily bits and will soon be on the ugly bits that need freshing up.

I saw on another post here where he repaired it himself. With a lathe, o ring, spot weld, I should have it done.
I am going to see the hermit tomorrow morning about his Cubs. I'm hoping, with all his stuff, I can get most of what I need. Wish me luck.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
