Default Sitting in a barn for 35 years: Gannon Earthcavator

This one was high on my hit list of implements, and after having picked it up I can see why. What a versatile piece of equipment. Surface rust only, the rotate action works freely and all the bits are accounted for. The seller said it has been in a barn for the last 35 years, and I believe it. It looks like it was only used a few times before it was stored away, because the cutting edges are sharp and the ripper teeth are in perfect shape. Still has the original decals. The tag says it's an FH-36. I was slightly bummed that it wasn't a 48, but after hooking it behind the 882 I see it's going to be perfect.

Anyway, it was just a few towns away and I picked it up for $225. Around here, regular box blades, home made, and hack jobbies go for $300 to $600, so I think I stole it.

The pics....

Hey neighbor!

Well lucky me you just bought a BIG toy. I think had the guy put "Gannon" in the title it would have been gone before I called, because I didn't stumble onto it until it had been on CL for a few days.

It's kind of on my CC 882, but not really. It must have been a Sears Suburban model because the hitch points are the narrow Cat 0 variety. I'll have to add some more ear mounts and figure out some kind of very short top link. I'd like to keep this one on the 882 and put my replica IH#40 Blade on the 147. As far as using it on my Suburban, I really don't want to lift it up and down with Saturn power, LoL.

You two can trade the use of the RV for the Gannon.

Sounds like a fair deal to me!!

Hey not a bad idea, next weekend bolivier?

As far as my sn, it's a tribute to the '60's space program. That rocket represents some of the finest moments in the United States' engineering willpower, and also the bravery of astronauts White, Chaffee, Grissom and Jim Lovell just to name a few.

(Also, the US Army captured the right Germans!)

If you are interested at all in that era around the time Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier, then watch "All the Right Stuff." Outstanding and underrated movie.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
