Default The 149 is a beast!

Doing some work on my mother's farm this weekend and I see the grass around the freshly plowed garden is already out of control. Can't get to it with the bush hog because of the fence so I put the 149 into action. I am proud to say the cub kicked butt! Slow and steady did the trick...one pass with the deck up and one pass down.

I really love this TRACTOR!

Not really surprising to me... I've put a smaller 12 HP through that and it did just fine....glad it worked for you. I'm always surprised when people say they are surprised that an old CC can do the job. I suppose I'm more surprised when I see something new not up to a similar task.

Those 14HP Kohlers are the bomb.

My uncle had tried it the other day with his box store John Deere and it just couldn't do it. The blades kept getting clogged and the engine bogged down.

The cub actually went through it pretty quickly. My "slow" was quicker than most would think

I've logged, estimating, 2000 hours on a 149 over the years. When I was about 9 years old Dad cut me loose with it mowing "the field", which is about 4 acres... I had that job until I was 17 (34 now). I beat the snot out of the tractor so hard that one day the battery caps (on the non-serviceable battery) popped off! The tractor itself never really had many complaints.

Now that I'm many years older, and have bought that 149 from my Dad, I respect what the equipment is and I don't abuse it that hard anymore... But wow... The things these old cubs will put up with!!!

I detested that tractor when I was a kid, because it meant HOURS ON END of mowing boring pasture... Now as an adult, I dig it and hope to some day punish my children with it!

I've got love for the 149!!

That's a really nice looking 149. Did you refurbish it recently? The 149 is one of my favorites and a very popular workhorse of the line.

All the cubs are little tanks. My 108 runs circles around my neighbors' "20" hp craftsman with an unmanageable clutch and flaky steering. I have my tiller on the 149, so I haven't used my 149 for mowing yet, but the 1450 rocks. I do have a 48 inch deck for the 149 that's getting prepped for installation on it.

Your 149 looks great. I like the looks of the 1x8/9 series the best of all. Maybe because I've had a 108 for 35 years...first loves..and all that. (did I say that??)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
