Default Rim width

Can anyone explain the different rim widths? I am confused! My 149 appears to have the narrower 8 1/2 inch rim with the 23x 10.5 tires. Since my Dad was original owner on this tractor, I feel this is the original rim and tire. The tires are the Firestone turf tire with the zig-zag snow tire pattern.
Now I purchased a set of tires and rims with the 23x 10.5 tires and the rims are the wider 10 1/2 inch ones. The tires are the Goodyear turf tires like the ones on my 1250. I was under the impression that the narrower rim was used for the 23x 8.5 tires and the wider rim was used for the 23x 10.5 tires.

Sorry I am not right on my rim widths. I went back to take a look at these. My 149 has 7 inch rims I think. Do you measure the total rim width or the inner dimension that the bead seals on? When I measure this bead area, it is approx. 7 1/4 and total rim width is 7 3/4.
Now the other wider rims are the 8 1/2's. The 149 had these narrower rims on it originally with the Firestone 23x 10.5's.

If you have a tire on the rim it is easier to stick the tape measure through the rim & measure from lip to lip like I have marked in pic

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
