Off Topic: B&S motor
Well, I have a Made in Canada Roper tiller w/ B&S 4hp. motor. In order for me to shut down the motor, I should pull the choke, or I can ground out the spark plug. With a metal tab attatched to a headbolt, I simplt bend it over to meet the top of the sparkplug and thus, fouling out the plug. Seems like I'am going through sparkplugs doing this. Is this a good way to shut down the motor....or would be choking it off be better??? Of course my model dont have a shut-off switch. Thanks, John

back in the day the metal tab to the spark plug was standard from the factory to shut down a lot of the engines, i would bet that owners getting zapped by touching the plug was the prime motivator in having a kill switch to replace the tab.

I would short the plug,thats proper as stated previously.
Pulling the choke floods the motor a bit with gas, upsetting the mixture and chocking off the air,causing it to stall. ---- just not a good thing to do. Slow the engine (any engine) to idle for a minute or 2 after use, and then short the plug. ---listen real close and you will hear the engine say "thank you" |

I'll 3rd that. If you pull the choke to stop it, you are washing the cylinder walls with raw gas every time you shut it off.
