Except when the specified IH/CC belt doesn't fit. For some unknown reason. In an otherwise conventional set up.

It isn't that I couldn't look up the belt. It's that the specified belt didn't fit and I did not have access to an index of IH belts by size. If there is such a list, I'd love to see/have it.

I've got 6 cub cadets with mower decks. Usually have no problem getting the correct belt.

Like I said, if the IH/CC belt doesn't fit, you have another issue somewhere. Either the belt was boxed wrong (easy to figure out), or the mule drive pulleys are the wrong size, the deck isn't correctly mounted..... or you don't have the model deck you thought you did. It has to be SOME reason the specified belt would not fit. Likely an issue that needs corrected. Maybe you have the hanger attached to the wrong hole on the mule?

ANYONE can look up the size of a CCC belt. The CCC part look up site gives it. I have yet to find a belt that it doesn't. But, NO... you cannot look up the IH number by giving belt size. Now, IH likely could.... but there is no cross reference by size that I am aware of that you can get easily get your hands on. I would assume that IH used to have a book that had belts in it, listed by part number, and also cross referenced by size, but that is purely speculation from being a past IH (Case IH) mechanic.

As far as having 6 cubs with decks and not having issues getting the right belt.... that's it. There must be an issue you are overlooking as to why a correct belt doesn't fit. I would be more than happy to assist Frank, but you haven't posted any pictures yet.

Now you are getting to the intent of my first post. Not so much where to find a belt that fits (though that was part of the question) but why the specified belt would not fit.

I tried to describe my configuration in detail and asked what else I need to look at. I'll try to take some pictures and post them up. Hanger attached to the wrong hole on the mule? I'll have to look at that.

You can go here and get the length by part number, this should be in the tech section.

I have a copy of that, but not in a location I could share it on here. I thought (I/Roland/Sam) had put it in the tech section when I was a mod, but I looked and couldn't find it.

It already IS in the Resources library here on OCC:
https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/c...+1947-2004.pdf

On post #4, Roland mentions he has a chart that he compiled that can be sorted by part number or sorted by belt size or sorted by application.
So if one belt is a tad short, the list would show the next size available with the part number.

THAT chart is what needs to be in the tech section. Maybe it is?

I found this webpage where you can search belts by size and it will show various brands and other details. It might be of some use.
Such as finding a 3/8 x 83 belt for the O.P.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
