Default Corn On The Cob,,, - A NEW Way!!

'tis the season for corn on the cob,,,
I ain't saying the wife is impatient,, but, she has the picnic table set,, waiting for the corn to grow,,




Just kidding,, we read about the method of heating corn in the oven,, rather than hot water.

The oven method is perfect!!
Pull the ears off the stalk, leave the husks on.
Preheat the oven to 355 degrees,, throw in a dozen ears for 17 minutes.

THEN,, I cut off the top and bottom with a serrated bread knife.



The heat makes the silks fall right off as you remove the husks.
no muscles needed,, since the bottom is cut, the husks literally fall off.

There is no need to remove the husks until you eat it,, the corn is perfectly fresh.



(NOTE: if you are civilized,, and eat indoors,,
yea, you can remove the husks while the corn is in the kitchen)


So, the advantages to us are:
No boiling water, the house stays cooler,,,
FAR less labor,,
this is the freshest corn prep method we have EVER tried,,,

Give Oven Corn a try!!

Since I'm the only one in the house that likes it, I wrap an ear(with husks removed) with a paper towel and microwave for 3min. Even less heat in the kitchen.
I leave the husks on and put 5or6 ears in a freezer bag and throw in the freezer. Easier than canning but takes up a lot of room.

I leave the husks on, untouched as picked, put them in the micro wave for 6 minutes each.
When done take them out and shuck under cold water.
Watch out they are
still HOT inside!! even after the cold running water.
Butter/salt to taste, sit back and burn your mouth and enjoy your favorite beverage.
YUMMY!
( I don't need no girly table cloth,
a blue shop towel works fine)

Thanks for the tip john, im going to try it. Nice seeing the finished IH picnic table. We do skin on smiths hotdogs from Erie pa in the oven and when they split they're done. These would go perfect right along with them.

Have done the grill method of corn still in the stalks but soaked under water first with a brick on top for a while.

I like the microwave method mentioned too.

I think I could eat corn every day. My job as a young kid was to shuck it and of course it was outside and cold as can be on the back porch to avoid silk everywhere. My favorite was and will always be silver queen

3 minutes per ear in micro wave with husk on, cut off big end squeeze from small end ( hold with towel -hot ) ear usually slides out free of silk !

The worms,, and other insects usually stay in the top inch of the ear,,
where the kernels are the most tender.

By cutting off the top inch,, I virtually eliminate seeing any insects.
