My 1211... ran just ok when I got it. Had to buy the 126 just too cut the grass while I sorted it out. I could have run out and bought a depot cub. But what fun would that have been??

Currently a early cast rear 1282. I've had it since February or so. Complete basket case. Every piece of sheet metal will need replaced. Grill is trashed. Both relief valves look like ol faithful. I got it running shortly after bringing it home. Now I've stripped it down to essentially the axles and steering column. So I can roll it around. The manual lift lever was frozen solid and bent. So I'm working on a 100% nut and bolt restoration( Edit: "restomod") Just bought a clapped out 1812 to donate the hydraulic lift parts. And to donate some metal. Right now I'm stuck between just rebuilding the 12 and putting it back in there or finding a good 16 for it. I'm hoping to go get the 1812 next weekend so I can get started and swapping parts onto the frame

I am sad to say it's my near and dear to me Original.. Dad bought it for me in or around 1980! I was 9 or 10 years old.. It was a pull start that the dealer had converted to electric in the late 60's.. The magneto was bad so Dad helped me convert it to battery ignition.. we got it running and he let me learn and tinker with it and learn at my own leisure. I built a home made bumper for it.. spray painted the wheels and air cleaner etc.. It smoked but ran well.. I played with it and used it for at least 5 years.. As I got older cars, girls and life in general got in the way.. mom got tired of it being in her garage so she had dad load it up and fortunately he put it away in the back of an old silo at the farm that we no longer used.. That was circa 1987... the old girl still sits in that very spot! I pump the tires up every two or three years and spin the motor over to make sure it doesn't stick.. I have aspirations to get it out and restore it at times.. but that just never seems to happen.. I kept thinking I would pass it on to my step son or we would restore it together.. but he is 17 and has lost total interest in anything like that.. I will get to it one day I hope!
Long story short I guess my first cub project is still going! 38 years later.. I still have plans for it.. just not sure what to do with it once it gets done.. Maybe a living room ornament like Zippy did!

You'll get at it someday, hopefully. At least you had the foresight to hang onto a piece of your past. Just remember, we're getting older every day. The "living room ornament" thing was the only thing I could do with it. Nancy not wanting to use it, and me unable to without major modifications, what else was there to do? Beats sitting in the barn, full of mice, or????

Why you....
I found a NOS grille insert eventually. Then I picked up another fairly cheap if I decide to leave the patina and just do mechanicals.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
