Yes that will work, but magnets do not like heat, why not use a tiny tac instead?

Yes. I know all about the digital offerings. If I understand this thread correctly, it is all about the "second kind of cool" of having an analog tach which works with the Kohler point ignition. Yes. I am aware that magnets are heat sensitive. That is why I suggested mounting them away from the engine. (i.e. drive hub, driveshaft mounted disc, clutch plate, etc...) Now where did I put all those olde automobile gauges.

Nice find darkminion. Though it's been a while since the 3 years vocational electronics (mainly DC) in high school, I can still read a schematic, and solder.
I'll look into building one of those circuits this year.
