Default LTX1040 Won't Start

For the past few weeks, I've been having trouble getting my rider to turn over and start properly. I've been band-aiding it just to get the jobs done, but now I have some time to tinker and solve it.

So here is what I know....

It sits all week in my shed. Never been a problem before. On the weekend I'll go to start it up. I turn the key, short little roll over sound, dash lights up and then it stops. Any further attempts bring nothing, no roll over, no lights, nothing...completely dead.

When it first started, I'd throw my battery charger on it and after about a half hour, it'd struggle, but turn over and run fine. Then I got sick of waiting and just jumped it off the car. I let it charge up for 20-30 seconds, turn the key and it kicks right up.

I don't know much about cars or anything so I'm guessing it's just a bad battery? If it was something else, wouldn't jumping it to the battery still not work?

I plan on taking the battery down to autozone and get tested and replaced if needed this weekend, but was curious if someone had other opinions.

My experience with Lawn and Garden batteries is usually 3 years max, if I get 2 years out of one, I'm doing good.

That's awesome, but I think it may be a little warmer where you live?

Michigan winters can be tough on batteries.

Like Sam I use a battery tender on mine. Been doing that for the last 5 years and haven't swapped a battery in that time. Before that I would get maybe 3 years out of a tractor battery.

I have one battery tender that I swap between the generator and the tractor through the winter since both are in the garage. A couple weeks on one then swap to the other.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
