Got the break taken apart, and wire wheeled. I'll clean it better next time I get the sand blaster out. Also couldn't get the grill cleaned up very good, so used some paint stripper and leaving it sit over night.
Noticed the frame and axle has a few grooves gouged in them. Will need to weld a little to fill them in. Thinking JB Weld on the axle grooves? Ideas for filling them in?

Welded up the frame and axle today filling in the grooves. Seemed to work good.
Also built a hood hold down thingy that was originally spot welded to the dash tower. I don't have a spot welder so I drilled a couple holes in the "thingy" and welded it to the dash tower.
Also see that the seat was cracked and someone tried patching it in the past. Anyone have any success trying to restore them? Drill out the spot welds on the bottom and cut out the rusty part of the pan, then weld in a new piece? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Todd,
You need to fire up a electrolysis tank for some of that rust removal work.
The welded repairs look good!
Regards,
Chris

I have repaired quite a few original pan seats by brazing them. Came out good but I have never drilled out the spot welds and put in a new piece as you mentioned...I would be interested to see how that would work though.

I don't know how it would turn out either. Hate to cut it up and open a can of worms. But.....anything can be fixed, it's just a matter of how bad you (I) want it done I guess
Will have to think on it a while. It's just that it's rusty underneath between the pan and the piece that's spot welded to it. No other way to get it cleaned up.

Worked on the seat on and off the last few days. Drilled out the spot welds that hold the bracket. Got the rot replaced with clean steel now and welded up.
Need to weld up one more hole, the one in the last picture bottom right. Sandblast the seat and reattach the holder, little filler and should be good for a few more years.

Great work on the seat!! Very nice Glad to see you were able to get the bracket off as well. If I ever do another seat I will do the same.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
