I also have a couple 1440s.
I bought one new in the 90s for $4,000! I bought one last year used for the original owner for $300. The one I bought new is still very much usable and in good shape with 800 hours on it. The $300 one has numerous good features but the engine isn't running. I think that it will but my point is, even if the engine doesn't run, all the other excellent parts are more than worth the $300 I have in it and it will be good as a donor machine for my other one if needed. As has been stated, once you sell it the machine is gone and soon the money will be too. Consider for a moment just how little $300 will buy these days. I'll keep them both of mine but at this time I don't need the $300...

Sorry for the delay guys, my internet has been down for a while. Thanks for all the reply's. I was under the impression you couldn't rebuild these engines. If that's the case I'll do that for sure. Where is the best place to buy a rebuild kit?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
