Also the other info posted. Over my head electrically but still very helpful. Staring to clear up (a little LOL) That said, there are two part numbers for the regulators 1101991 (earlier) and then 1101998. That latter number is listed (on amazon anyway) as a replacement for both numbers. Also the SG itself seems to be listed differently for earlier vs later CC's but maybe thats just the type of bearing? So, can we conclude: 1) ALL at least narrow frame Cub Cadets have a two-wire SG and use a 2-wire Regulator? 2) And that this later regulator 1101998 works with ALL these NF (and prob later) Cub Cadets? and as far as the SG itself, are they all the same across all models up to the early 70's?

OK this is the kind of confusion. I am holding in my hand a regulator that has four terminals. L, Batt, F (field), and one on the bottom that is Armature.
Here are two schematics from cubfaq showing both 3 wire (later, 129) and 4 wire (earlier, 70) regulators! http://www.cubfaq.com/wiringdiagrams.html

You never said what tractor you are doing this on, so assuming it is for the model 100 indicated in your "equipment" and the wiring harness is not all cobbled up, it goes like this:
1. YELLOW - "F" of V/R to "F" of S/G 2. BLUE - "GEN" of V/R to "A" of S/G (red wire from starter button will be there also) 3. GRAY - "BAT" of V/R to other terminal of starter button (opposite the red wire) 4. GREEN - "L" of V/R to one terminal of the key switch ("L" stands for "load", in this case it is your tractors ignition) |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
