This was my worn trunion fix. This picture is for illustration only. This trunion isn't worn by the springs. The one in my tractor was really loose and the thing was a handful in tight spots. It's as responsive as can be now. I decided it was too much trouble to pull the rear end out of the tractor and fix it. |

I like the creativity but since you've got it that far apart, why not have it fixed properly? More (closer) pics!!
Edit: I don't see little groves worn, guessing you'd just need new springs? Suppose I'm lost on this one.

I suppose as a quick fix just to make it by till it can be repaired properly its not a bad idea. Good thinking too. I might do this to my 1450 until I can get my hands on the right part

If you try it, use new, soft 1/4" gas line or you might wind up with a jerky hydro. You might anyway but it's worth two inches of gas hose and a couple of tie straps to find out.

Let us know how it works. I'm still not sold on the springs. The JD's don't have them and they use the same hydro. Go figure.

Oh, and I think this repair if fine. I'm not sure how long the hose will last, but you may be on to something here..... |

What issue? There is none. They don't have a spring. It's just solid linkage.

This isn't the case with using the hoses to cushion the action a little. Like I said above, the tractor is more responsive to the speed control lever but is not rough or objectionable and every bit of lever movement results in increase/decrease of speed or direction. Just thought a few of you might be interested in it. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
