Got two spindles apart today. Three days of PB Blaster and a little light pounding with the hammer and they finally broke loose. The bearings are good, no binding or internal rust, but a lot of pitting on the outside. Spindle housings are pitted pretty bad also, but I managed to get both the bearing and housings cleaned up with the wire wheel and drill press. (no picture of the bearing cleaned up)

Looks like you r cleaning it up real good. Every part or surface that got put together got a thick layer of grease,even the big spindle stiffing plate. I coated the whole thing and layed it down and let it mush out when bolted together. Thats the red grease u see. Dave

You guys are doing some nice work on those decks, when you’re done and if you are bored I have a couple 60” Habans that you can overhaul.
