Got the new front tires installed on Friday; Vredestein V61s.

Here's the fuel pump intake and exit tubing. Everything's pretty flat in and out.

Default Thank you and two questions (Picture heavy)

Thank you. The pictures helped. I have the engine back together. I rebuilt the carb, added a new coil and condenser.

The starter is turning over the engine. It sounded good but did not start. Further investigation revealed the fuel tank shut-off valve was not allowing gas to flow. The valve is clogged and the stem will not turn. How do I remove the valve without damaging the engine? Pictures attached. I am adding a new fuel filter when I replace the valve.

One last question: The KT17 service manual specifies Champion RBL15Y spark plugs. My 782 has Champion RC12YC plugs. They look fairly new. Will this work or do I need to find another equivalent plug?

I attached pictures of my 782.

I ASSUME (I hate that word) you are not wanting to damage the fuel tank, not the engine?? when working on the fuel petcock.
The bung in the bottom of the tank pulls out with the petcock/shutoff if one prefers.
They are always cracked/old, and when disturbed, leak.
New are available.
You have some choices:
Blow back into the tank where the outlet hose attaches with an air hose,
that usually dislodges the blockage, then washout the "stuff in the tank with hot soapy water.
That will get you running till you can obtain a new grommet/bung and petcock, if it is not salvageable.
New, most have a screen in the inside inlet of the petcock but over the years things happen to damage them or they magically disappear.
Now if the petcock is frozen in the off position, you can try to hold the body with vice grip or a small adjustable end wrench and try to turn the thumb wheel.
if no joy, try penetratingly oil and holding the body as before, loosen the packing nut slowly working it as they sometimes corrode.
Of course by now you prolly allowed the grommet to be destroyed and have removed the whole assy out of the tank, awaiting a new one
if your lucky, the air hose in step 1 did the trick

I realized yesterday that I should have started a new topic. I apologize. I got excited about reading your thread. Yesterday afternoon, I tried posting under a new topic thanking you and ol'George but I could not get a video attachment to post. I did not want to hijack the thread. The post would not post because the video was an Iphone video.

Thank you and ol'George for your advice and help. I would not be at the point of the repair without your help.

This is a great group and helped me with my CC 1320.

Thank you. Your 782 looks great.

Don't sweat it! Glad to help. It was all "tongue in cheek", that's why I put the "LOL" at the end.

farmandfleet.com when on sale. Just put one on my 1711 and it seemed nice. Probably still set me back $65.

I put the cheaper variety on my 1440 and that turned out nice, too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
